Looking for source of Gygax quote about 1st 6 lvls

Can anyone tell me where I may read Gary Gygax saying 'the first 6 levels are the character's back story'?

I came across this paraphrased quote in a blog comment a few weeks ago and I find it very interesting. If there is more to the quote I'd like to read it.

You could try typing the quote into google.

Yeah, I did goog it but no joy.

And I tried to dig into the ENworld and Dragonsfoot threads; likewise no joy.

I'll keep at it, but I was really hoping for a short cut. Ah well.
