I am launching a new fanzine, to be called 'Unknown Sagas', that will cover Swords & Wizardry: White Box. I aim to publish this fanzine quarterly, at least for the moment, and it will be produced in the digest-sized format, to match the newest release of the White Box rules, which are impending. This magazine will be distributed for free in PDF format, and a hardcopy version will be available through Lulu at cost – this will be a free fanzine, just as in the earliest days of OD&DITIES. Now, naturally, such a fanzine is nothing without submissions, so I'm calling for writers and artists! No submission restrictions on content, this fanzine is to be by the fans and for the fans; that's the whole idea of a fanzine. I'll take spells, monsters, adventures, house rules, classes, rants, poems, campaign write-ups, short stories, anything in fact that the readers wish to send in! The rules system used in any article should be 'White Box', naturally, and submissions, ideas, questions and comments should be in Word, Open Office or rtf format, to methuslah1@yahoo.co.uk. I'm still working on the novel at the same time, of course; having three new projects in the fire will make life interesting. The first book, 'The Forgotten Tomb', will be out in April-May, more details to follow in the coming months on this. All I will say right now is that it is intended as very much in the spirit of the OSR – my intent from moment one was to write a series of 'OSR' books, in this case especially inspired by White Box. I'm consolidating down by blogs to one to make my life a little easier – so my online home is now antediluvianprintworks.blogspot.com/ - there you can follow progress on the magazine, progress on my campaign, progress on the book, and my progression into insanity!

There's an extraneous semi-colon at the end of the link.

Richard, I always like to see you coming out with new stuff. Good luck with the new endeavor and let us know if FO! can do anything to help!

Yes, there is - although we're not talking next week or anything. The goal is to get the pieces in place for a highly decentralized, hobbyist-focused, fan-controlled environment for WhiteBox gamers. We'll drop the hardback 6x9 book into that. (which is not exactly digest sized, but it's a size people like, and lulu can get that size out to international customers at low shipping rates). I don't have anything to do with Methuslah's 'zine at all - it's completely a non-Matt initiative.

Oops; I've fixed the link to the blog in the first post.
Everything is going well with the magazine right now; already the submissions are beginning to come in. (But please, keep them coming, we always need more!)

I don't have anything to do with Methuslah's 'zine at all - it's completely a non-Matt initiative. It will be interesting to see if this has any impact on Knockspell, if it divides the market somewhat. The "problem" with adding too much material to WB is that it might start to look more and more like Core, in which case you re-invent the wheel. I'll be interested to see where it goes, however!

This is definitely true, and I don't want to clog up the pathway you created into the game. I want to be cautious about it, but on the other hand there are a couple of things (stemming from the original draft shared by Core and WB) that people objected to, and I want to fix those. The old saving throw matrix is one table, and now that I've figured out a way to get comfortable with it legally, there's no reason not to drop it in as an optional table, as the best example: No change to rules, short addition to page count, big payoff in terms of gamer satisfaction.

Looking forward to the fanzine. I have a few unique rules and things I've developed for my WB games, might even submit something if I get them polished.

By Crom! Fantastic idea, but why such a bland name? Why is 'Swords & Wizardry: Unboxed' being passed up?
Edit: Sorry if that comes across as contentious. Look forward to it's release. What is in a name, a rose by any other name would still be overpriced when paying for at the flower-shop ;D)

Maybe we need to start a competitor if Richard's going to let that name slide by? ;D

ByCrom! I am no fish-monger haggling his wares in the market, vlark! I would prefer you join my band of dog-brothers and pillage the unruly scribe's town so that he may see the folly of his ways!

Any news on the fanzine. I was looking forward to it. I haven't heard anything -- eventually this would become something that's up for grabs for someone else to do, I would imagine, if it turns out not to materialize. I haven't contacted Methuslah to check on the status, though.

It would be sad if it didn't materialize. I'm sure this magazine would find a crowd within the Original Edition community. There's still plenty of demand for new Pre-AD&D material.
