My friend Duwayne passed away this afternoon of a heart attack. He checked himself into the hospital on the 4th with what he thought was stomach cramps (he was a veteran with other health problems) but they told him he was having small heart attacks. He was in for a week and had just been sent home two days ago. I saw him yesterday on Saturday and he was looking a lot better. It was a real shock when I found out a little while ago. He was the same age as me, 54.
I met him two years ago and we became friends and when I started up an OD&D campaign he was one of my steadfast players. I won't know for a few days when the funeral is as a lot of the family is out of town and out of state.
He was a really great guy and a lot of fun to be around. He had a great laugh and he do anything for a friend. He always had your back.

That's terrible news. Amazing that he was sent home from the hospital.

My deepest condolences, dreamer. There's nothing that can be said to ease your pain, but know that there's a lot of people here whose thoughts go with you.

Thank you all for your condolences. I should know by tomorrow evening when the funeral will be. His family is taking it very hard. I went into work today, talked with my boss and so I worked and am working extra hours today and tomorrow. They are letting me work around my schedule so that I can go to the funeral whenever it is.
I am thinking about how I can honor him in the game and the best thing to do with his PC and any suggestions would be helpful.

Perhaps his PC could ascend to demigodhood, and he could be permanently added to your campaign's pantheon. Or, if you have a monotheistic campaign, his PC could ascend into the heavens as a Saint.

Sorry for your loss.
Honoring him in a game that you both love sounds like a great idea. I really like Geoffrey's demigod suggestion.

Thank you for the great suggestion, I have gotten a few others and I am going to talk with my experienced players before the next game so I can decide exactly what I will do. My friends funeral is on Friday morning, and my boss worked with me this week shifting hours around so that I could be off work and go to the funeral, but still get all my required hours in. I am very honored that I was asked to be one of his pallbearers by his family. I thank all of you for the support you given me.
