I'm working on an Egyptian pyramid dungeon that the party may stumble upon if lost in the desert. What I'm having trouble with is thinking up a good entry way trap/puzzle. I would like to challenge the players rather than their characters and not be able to result in a TPK. Any ideas?

A classic is to have a false door. Trying to open it will drop them a level down, with no easy way back; the feeling of being trapped in the pyramid helps create fear.

A large wall painting, possibly accompanies by hieroglyphic texts. Pressing / turning / otherwise manipulating the right element opens the way, manipulating any of the other movable elements triggers a trap. (The latter half for the players who wish to skip thinking and try solving it via brute force "I thoroughly search every inch for cracks and loose stones".)

knights-n-knaves.com/phpbb3/viewtopic.php?f=28&t=6356 may also help edit: I thought I had written a post listing all of the trap types from the Indiana Jones Lego video game on the lego.com web site, but I can't seem to find it, so perhaps I never wrote one. I'll find the list in my journal, and type it up.

This is a great post on Michael Curtis' Pole and rope: poleandrope.blogspot.com/2010/08/this-is-where-forrestal-cashed-in.htmlIt's an excerpt from a supplement for the Indiana Jones RPG that has a cool "Noteworthy Room" table and lots of examples of cool features one might find in an abandoned temple or other Jonesish type of place. I've used it a lot, actually.
