I know I've missed the boat with RPGNow and DriveThru - OD&D used to be available as a PDF download by Wizards pulled it (right?).
I've got all of the retro-clones I can find with LotFP: Weird FRP being my current fave, but I'd love to see OD&D once more. I've been reading Philotomy's Musings and it's left me pining...
I haven't seen a copy on eBay for... YEARS!
What's my best avenue?
Many thanks

There is one way - the only way - to get your hands on the Little Brown Books and supplements (hell, the whole old-school kitten kaboodle)... but its illegal... but that what makes its so fun!

I haven't seen a copy on eBay for... YEARS! *g* Pull the other leg? There are dozens but, as in recent years, prices go up between GenCon and Christmas. There is one way - the only way - to get your hands on the Little Brown Books and supplements (hell, the whole old-school kitten kaboodle)... but its illegal... but that what makes its so fun! Well, there's more than one way but searchable pdfs are a boon to some people even if they have the original paper copies. Kinda makes a nonsense of the whole premise that "retroclones" are ESSENTIAL (primarily) because the original text will somehow evaporate into oblivion, though. Book burning went out of fashion in the D&D world some time back and pdfs are even more tricky to stomp out...

I don't think this is a browser issue. It looks like the site is still there, but the images have been taken off.

Sorry Harami it's probably closer to the truth to say that on the occasions when I've looked for OD&D on eBay, I haven't found it. But thanks for the tips.

Mhmm... agreed on T&T's pricing on the likes of OCEs but they can (and do) occasionally sell cheaply on lesser-known fun items. Back on eBay, this one at $56 including Greyhawk with 12 hours to go /might/ still end up cheapish, even at the "wrong time of year". Not quite sure what to make of "Dungeons & Dragoons", though - or was that "Dungoens and Dragons"? (read "unused" with a pinch of salt on the latter)

$150? Ouchie... Even $61 was high, IMO, given condition - if looking for a reference set. Don't give up, your copy is out there. *nods* If budget is limited and patience is a virtue, a good solution is to get a freebie trial of a sniping service such as bidnip.com/ (five free wins) and lowball the living daylights out of eBay when the prices are in their annual trough. For fairly good condition, ~$40-45 for the 3LBBs or ~$60-65 including box should be possible (preferably including ref. sheets) if 2011 follows 2009/10 trends.

Agreed, that e-bay is the way to go. I picked up a reader copy of the LBB plus supplements within the last year or so. You just have to be patient and keep watching for them. A bit more than you want to pay, perhaps but Noble Knight currently has a half dozen for sale, from $200 on up. (They also have a woodgrain set, but I can't even think about spending $3000 for a game.)

By the way, this is where WotC/Hasbro has really dropped the ball. 35 years after this product was issued, there is still a big demand for it on e-bay. All of the money being thrown around for used OD&D sets and they don't see a dime of it. WotC should issue a boxed set reprint just like the '74 books and they'd make a mint.

Thanks so much for the encouraging tips and advice folks. I will keep watching the skies - my copy is out there.
I agree with Finarvyn, Wizards could re-print the original boxed set aimed at collectors without fear of harming 4E brand. How can they miss the mark by so many leagues?

Thanks but it didn't work for me... *sob* Not sure what it is then. It's all boxes with red x's, but if I click on 'Men & Magic' on the left, then the page numbers, I can read that book. But it doesn't work for any of the others.

But it doesn't work for any of the others. I checked it out on my Windows and Firefow (Mozilla) servers, but all the pictures are broken. That Dad's D&D site is like d**n Wack-A-Mole game - they knock it down, and it pops-up somewhere else. It would be nice for Wizbros to stop this nonsense, but their brains are made of s**t!

The OD&D books are widely available as illegal downloads, unfortunately. If WotC wants to keep their heads in the sand forever and turn up their nose at honest people like me (and hopefully the rest of us) that would rather pay the copyright holder's, then unscrupulous pirates (maybe they play Palladium FRP) then this stuff is just going to get more widespread. Ugh....
Anyways, if you want to purchase a physical, legal copy, I recommend watching ebay like a hawk. Save Original D&D as a favorite search, have your phone set to alert you when an auction goes up for BIN. That's how I ended up with some stellar copies of some of this stuff, for ultra-cheap.

And also remember that sellers on ebay don't always know what they're talking about. Sometimes they vastly overstate the value of an item.
And sometimes they mis-label stuff, so that they don't get nearly as much as they could...
Watch for misspellings, too -- happens a lot. Great way to save some money.

But that is to easy and makes to much sense for wotc. wootsie wants 4 e to be the only rpg on the market and we should all get with the program.

I have the LBB on pdf, but just last week I picked up on ebay a great condition, 6th printing of the 3 LBB (no box) for a mere $36. I already have Greyhawk and Blackmoor, and hope to fill out my collection soon. Still, there's been a couple of complete white box sets that went recently for $70 and $100 on ebay, which is about as good as it gets. Pity I totally forgot about the first one in particular, even though I was at home when the auction ended!
