So, I'm in my local Half-Price Books today, and HEY! I smell old stuff in here! I came away with a full pack of BD&D character sheets (the green ones), a pristine copy of the Dungeon Geomorphs set (unlike my other, much less than pristine copy) and a beautifully preserved Hexagonal Mapping Booklet (also, much unlike my well weathered and beaten one) The treat was getting this home and looking at the maps that were still in the Mapping booklet. Very cool stuff. So, now I'm thinking of running a game on these maps. Anyone else used a map found in a second-hand gaming product? (Or characters as well. Though there were no filled out character sheets.)

Argh. I just have to find a "Half-Price Books" somewhere. It seems like I keep hearing from people that they find great gaming stuff there, and I have no idea where to find one.
Google, here I come....

"Found" gaming materials are my favorites, even more than the vintage gaming publications they are discovered in. I haven't found any good maps lately, but the NPC nemesis for my next campaign will be an illusionist with ridiculously good stats from a character sheet contained in a 1983 World of Greyhawk boxed set acquired cheaply (also included a Monsters & Treasure Assortment and unused Hexagonal Mapping Booklet).
There are plenty of Half Price Books where I live, but I'm still jealous of the discoveries I hear about. All the HPB around here have been charging higher than eBay prices on all vintage gaming materials for a few years.

Google, here I come.... And even when you find one, you have to keep checking back. Mine has a boatload of d20 stuff, but hardly any really old school stuff (which, admittedly, I buy when they do...). Stuff comes in, and when it does, you have to snap it up. It's best to cultivate a source on staff, who will hold stuff for you -- especially if he knows you'll buy it. Good luck!
