This is an OD&D board, right? So science fiction has no place in it, right? Not so fast.... I like science fiction, but feel that there aren't too many good places to discuss it. There are a few boards devoted to a specific brand of scifi ( Metamorphosis Alpha, Traveller, Star Wars...) but I can't find much that fits my needs. Before we get too far, let me highly endorse Falconer's Old School Star Trek board. My hope is to mostly avoid Star Trek chatter here, because I don't want to conflict with his space on the 'net. However, his focus is on TOS Star Trek books and games, which is sometimes somewhat narrow and so my musings on non-TOS science fiction don't seem to have a good fit there. EDIT: Falconer also has created a Star Wars board, so I wanted to insert a plug for that as well.
That's where this new section comes in. Rather than post a bunch of off-topic stuff at Falconer's place, I thought I'd just tweak mine a little. I thought I'd take the science fiction stuff and scoop it into one place, give one location for folks to chat about anything scifi. I moved the Terminal Space and Traveller stuff here, along with a "General SciFi" for discussion that doesn't fit either of those. I'm pondering if it's a good idea or not to slide the Metamorphosis Alpha and/or Warriors of Mars sections down here as well. And I'm hiding it at the bottom so as to not annoy the OD&D gamers who aren't interested in this stuff. Best of both worlds, I'm hoping. ;D

A great idea, Fin!
FWIW, I'd vote for leaving WoM where it is, in the chronology of TSR products...oh, wait, MA was a TSR product, too, of course, so yeah, it probably makes sense to move 'em all down here...

I would keep WoM and MA where they are. To me they (along with EPT and in some senses Boot Hill) are semi-official members of the OD&D family, so they belong in that particular lump.
Maybe make Terminal Space a sub-board of this one.
Anyway, carry on, good idea and all that. Don’t mind if you discuss Star Trek from time to time. :-)

Just wanted to say: D&D was never originally a FANTASY role-playing game, it was just an adventure game. A section in Men & Magic titled Scope of the Game pretty much says it all. One is advised to start with a medieval setting, but can (and should) expand when comfortable to do so, into other settings. Barsoom anyone? And later: Barrier Peaks? Booty and the Beasts? D&D isn't fantasy OR science-fiction... it's ADVENTURE! Fight on!

For those that have never played Metamorphosis Alpha, maybe moving it here would help them realize where it fit in the spectrum.
On the other hand, is Empire of the Petal Throne Sci-Fi? There is a strong argument that it is. =

I now find it awesome.
