I just posted on my blog some maps I made a few years ago for a proposed Gamma World campaign. It wasn't set on Earth but was rather on a colony world where things had collapsed following a nuclear confrontation. The campaign was going to be an exploratory one where the characters were looking for the mythical utopia of Green Paradise. I had all sorts of ideas for stuff they'd run into along the way. The campaign was going to contain homages to classic sixties and seventies sci-fi films like: Logans Run, Zardoz, The Omega Man, original series Star Trek (particularly the episode "Space Seed" which introduced Khan), and the Mad Max films. Maps here: castledragonscar.blogspot.com/2010/04/heres-two-maps-i-made-while-back-for.html

Looks pretty cool, sort of like GW meets MA meets EotPT.

I'm a big fan of all three of those, but hadn't thought of it in exactly that way!
We were initially considering having the PCs be explorers from Earth who crash land on the planet (they'd all be Pure Strain Humans) , but I think the standard assumption for GW starting characters might be what I go with now.

the PCs be explorers from Earth who crash land on the planet (they'd all be Pure Strain Humans) That's what I thought GW was about until I finally bought the 1st edition boxed set back in 1981. The cover (which shows PSH in protective suits) exploring the radioactive wastes led me to think that. I assumed that PSHs would be OK as long as their suits weren't ripped, but as soon as that happened they'd turn into psycho mutants.

That cover has got be one of my favorite game covers ever.
It occurs to me that a camaign where the PCs were "last humans" in a freaky mutant wilderness sounds like it could be fun. I'm a big fan of Jack Kirby's Kamandi so that idea resonates with me. Whether the humans came from a crashed spaceship or out some bunker doesn't really matter I guess.
