OK, this is barely in the larval stage, but I'm putting it out on the board for your amusement. It is a preliminary try at the "Trade and Speculation Table" from Book 2, hampered, of course, by not having a handle on the trade modifiers (which can't be done until I figure out the fantasy version of the environmental stats), or prices (which I am putting on hold until I can get a more complete - and hopefully translated - version of Diocletian's 'Edict on maximum prices' - the Latin versions of Edictum de pretiis rerum venalium I have found online only have the first third of the text, so the really good stuff, like shipping costs, are left out <grrrrr>.)
So, here goes:
********************************
* - Tortoise Shell, Mother-of-Pearl, Exotic Woods, etc.
** - Coffee, Artworks, Glass Beads, Amulets, Religious Items, etc.
Die Roll:
Paleolithic 1 + 1-6 TL: 0-1
Neolithic 1-2 + 1-6 TL: 2
Copper Age 1-3 + 1-6 TL: 3
Bronze Age 1-5 + 1-6 TL: 4-5
Iron Age 1-6 + 1-6 TL: 6+
Bulk:
P - Pounds (Increments of 5 pounds) 20 P = 1 H
H - Hundreds of Pounds (Increments of 100 pounds) 20 H = 1 T
T - Tons (Increments of 2000 pounds) 400 P = 20 H = 1 T
********************************
Now that my database class is over, I'm taking a look at FGU's Bireme and Galley, and seeing if I can cross-reference any of the information against sources like Björn Landström's The Ship, an Illustrated History and ruminating on whether I can tease any sort of coherent design sequence that would let me create anything from a TL0 dugout canoe to a TL 12 Carrick.
Hey, I knew the job was daft when I took it.
So, here goes:
