Right, then. The kind Master of the House has provided us with this section, and I'm happy to play by the rules here. At the outset, here's what I can cover:
I came to the Twin Cities in early 1975, fresh out of high school, and went to the University of Minnesota where I met the people at CSA - Conflict Simulation Association - who were people like Dave Arneson, David Weseley, Ross Maker, Dave Megarry, Fred Funk, Michael Mornard - and played a lot of games. I was brought out to Prof. Barker's in late '75 - very early '76 as the 'court painter' for his Tekumel campaign, and was a player out there until late 1987 - early 1988. Along the way I was hired by Dave for Adventure Games, became a founding member of GAMA, and have been running game campaigns ever since.
And now, the Fair Warning: I will answer your questions as best I can, and I will do so based on what I saw and heard over the decades. In all too many cases, I can back up what I say with documentation; there are a lot of skeletons in the gaming world, and quite a few of them are buried in my basement. I will also be right up front with what I can not say or comment on; I am still doing consulting work for various game companies - unpaid, and I'm keeping it that way - and I will not discuss matters covered under Non Disclosure Agreements or confidentiality agreements. I have no commercial interests in the game industry, and I'm keeping it that way as well. I am a very satisfied customer of several miniatures companies, like Anne Norman's Bad Squiddo Games, and I may plug their merchandise from time to time if it is useful to the discussion.
