Just seems odd to buy one set of armour and one weapon and you're set for life. No? Who said that’s what’s happening? To say nothing of upgrading with magic stuff? Also….who cares? If they never “upgrade”, they’re certainly repairing or replacing. But….tracking it all completely and totally in game? Fun? Intrigue? Mystery? Excitement? Yeah. No. YAWN! Yep. You've made your opinion known several times. Thanks.
Why come back to a thread specifically to continue to crap on something you don't like?
If you're not going to have any sort of conversation aside from "I don't see how it could be fun so it isn't." then why comment?

I think worrying about wrapon and armor damage, repair, and replacement really depends on the theme of the campaign in question. Sometimes resource management adds to the flavor of what's going on. A gritty, on-the-edge-of-survival game tequires more tracking of torches, food, and arrows than an epic high fantasy. Likewise, the durability and reliability of equipment can be added or removed with the flavor of the game.

My biggest advocacy for it would be that it adds a level of danger to fighting, especially at lower levels.

So that’s what the 1% upkeep rule is for! Now I get it.

I participated in the discussion in good faith, as my first comment on July 15th shows. However, I suppose the question centering around “fun” caused me to go too far outside. Mayhaps I overreacted in that regard as I was thinking of just and only fun and not considering what others may think of as ‘fun’ in an old-school (or any) rpg. Personally…I only think it’s fun if it’s generically fun. Fun as measured by anyone/everyone.
RPG bean-counting is surely fun to a good number of gamers, inarguably. Not I. Not to any non-gamer at all.
Therefore, not fun to me and not in my mind something that ought be judged as “fun”.
I absolutely did not wish to be a killjoy in the thread. After all, I’m taking issue with something that isn’t, overall, “fun”. I’d rather focus on stuff that is fun. So…yes..again, last thing I want to be or behave like is to detract from fun.
