Here is the "Player's Review" of the eighth Viper Archipelago game. This after-action report was written by L, and is presented un-edited.

Before this session we had an explosion of new players in the server. I hope the
necessary amount gatekeeping can be kept to a minimum. I played my new character,
Langham the Fierce, a Fighting-Man. He he is a typical knight in shining armor with
long, flowing blonde hair and strong, chiseled facial features. A man of Law, but
not a cleric. The referee didn't want us to waste any time and basically just
pointed to a location on the map and said "there's treasure here, go", so we went.
We cut our way through the jungle and came upon a large aztec/mayan-like city with
stone structures resembling ziggurats, which were completely overgrown by the jungle
vegetation. Pretty cool idea for a dungeon environment if you ask me. We found the
entrance to the dungeon, and went inside. There was a golden-plated statue
resembling some sort of snake creature with gems for eyes. I assumed that if there
was treasure that was this easy for the taking right in front of the entrance of a
dungeon, the treasure is not easy to take, so we ignored it. Behind the statue we
found some markings of a secret door, which we opened.
Right after opening the secret door, a number of giant monkey-like creatures wearing
armor (!) and weapons showed up at the entrance. We quickly flew down the stairs
after hesitating wether we should use the stairs on the of the ziggurat as a
tactical place to fight. When we got down a long flight of stairs, we found 4
pillars, again with snakes statues on them. Colby, our cleric, looked for a switch,
and it closed the secret door, blocking the monkey-men from chasing us (the referee
was annoyed by our skills.)
There were 3 ways to choose from, but only one stayed on this level, so I thought it
was a good idea to keep on this level for as long as possible. There was a hallway
with a snake carved into the ground. I started poking the floor with my two-handed
sword because I was expecting a trap to be there, and sure enough darts came flying
out of the walls. It was clear you had to walk across the snake in order to not
trigger the trap.
When we all walked along the snake, we came to a room where the walls were filled
with hundreds of jade masks. I asked someone to take the risk this time, and a new
player, who was playing a Fighting-Man, took the risk and walked towards the room.
Unfortunately, there was a second (!) trap at the head of the snake (pretty unfair!)
He fell down, took 5 damage and died. After this the team didn't really want to do
anything with the jade mask room, but I was convinced that if there were two traps
guarding that room, there must be something very valuable inside. I went inside and
started putting as many masks as I could into my sack. I even dropped my bow and
arrows to make more room.
After taking a bunch of mask each, we headed up the stairs again and headed back to
camp with no problems. Langham moved in with my other character, Vishan Durnas, and
got his own group of mercenaries, the "Kraken Slayers", to guard his treasure and
to wage war in the future. He also requested a silver dagger in the form of a cross
to be made and have the silver blessed be by the local priest of Law, in order to
destroy any unholy spirits or beasts Langham will find himself facing.
