I'm looking to start up a new OD&D campaign, and I'd be keen to recruit a number of players from here.
This will be a proper "old-school campaign", set in a perilous and pulpy fantasy world, one that takes influence from real-world history, vintage sword & sorcery literature, and similar “Appendix N” material. The game will be an open-world, open-table player-driven sandbox, in which players are free to "drop-in" and "drop-out" as they please, engaging with the dense open-world as they wish. For the initial stage of this game, the adventuring locale will be the lush tropical islands of the Viper Archipelago, an island chain as picturesque as it is deadly. In this lawless region, expect to deal with ruthless pirates, ferocious carnivorous apes, as well as the the numerous reptilian species which lend their namesake to the archipelago.
We'll be playing online using Discord voice, no need for any of the fancy stuff like virtual tabletops and so on. A Discord link to a temporary "holding pen" will be provided below, where prospective players can gather. As for game time, I expect that scheduled session times will vary, but I want to get a game going on a weekly basis. Prospective game times might look something like 8:30 PM on weekday evenings, as well as on Sunday evenings. Alternatively, weekday mornings may also be suitable. These times are flexible, and are likely to be adjusted based on week-to-week availability. All of the provided times are in my timezone of GMT + 8.
In terms of rules, I'll be using the three "little brown books" of 1974 Original Dungeons & Dragons, without incorporating the later supplemental material. This game also incorporates a number of house rules and modifications, which are primarily drawn from the 1971 tabletop wargame, “Chainmail”.
If you're looking to play, or are interested in seeing how the campaign progresses, please click on the Discord link below. From there, we can see what player numbers are like, and determine a suitable game time for the week ahead. I hope to see a strong response to this campaign posting, and I sincerely hope to see as many of you as possible participate in this new game, even if that's on an irregular or "on-off" basis.
