There are a bunch of Wild West games out there. I just wonder which ones are the best, or are there some good ones I haven't heard of.
Here's a partial list, sorted somewhat with my most favorite on top:
Boot Hill (TSR)
Go Fer Yer Gun (C&C supplement)
Aces & Eights (Kenzer & Co, Hackmaster Wild West)
Sidewinder (d20 RPG)
OGL Wild Wes (Mongoose)
Deadlands (Savage Worlds)
Six-Guns & Sorcery (Castle Falkenstein in the West)
Gunslinger (Avalon Hill wargame)

I have this neat little rules set called Legend of the Old West which is part of the "Warhammer Historical" series. It seems pretty simple and the pictures of the minis are really inspirational. Just wish I could find where to buy the miniatures. :-(

There is also GURPS Old West (I have a boatload of GURPS books, mainly for the background info, bibliographies, and sidebar articles - I've only ever played GURPS at conventions.)
ICE put out Western Hero. Again, I snagged a used copy for the background info, but don't play the game.
Going way back, there was a game called Bounty Hunter by Nova Games - it was one of their two-book first-person combat games like Ace of Aces... Two gunslingers chasing each other around a (very deserted) western town. The game was supposed to have additional books that opened up new areas of town, but they never got around to producing them.

There's also Two Hour Wargames's Six Gun Sound.
They're a set of miniature wargaming rules but they're practically a proto-RPG.

Dark City Games has a free, very short rule-set, called Legends of the Untamed West. It's apparently an adaptation of The Fantasy Trip (they have free fantasy and space versions as well).

I can't believe I forgot about this one (since I have it). I also purchased the first solitaire western adventure but haven't had a chance to play it yet. Yes, Dark City Games has three "product lines", their most numerous being the straight fantasy adaption of The Fantasy Trip but they're working on Sci-Fi and Wild West adaptions as well.

Here is a similar discussion. Here is FGU's Wild West in HTML form, posted with permission.

Hey Fin, and anybody else who loves wedtern gaming, check out www.knuckleduster.com. Forrest Harris is the owner, operater, and designer for great inexpensive figures. Not only that but he tends to cover some more obscure types of figures. He has also produced two excellent resource books. THe Knuckleduster Firearms Compendium is a great book that has lots of good, solid, basic information about western firearms from 1849-1900. There are some cool articles on the psychology of gunfights too. The other book is the Knuckleduster Cowtown Creator. This volume lays out the anatomy of a western cowtown, both the historical and the hollywood, and has so many interesting tidbits about the west, it'll blow your mind. I cannot recommend these books highly enough. Othe good sources of figures for western games are the Desperado range of figs from Monday Knight (www.mondayknight.com), the entire Dixon range available at ScaleCreep, and Old Glory miniatures. Go to www.theminiaturespage.com for urls.

Knuckleduster is indeed awesome. ICE also put out a western genre book for Rolemaster called Outlaw.

I found in my archies a wspaghtii western rpg I wrote when I was something like 15. I was suprised it's not too clumsy and pretty old school. I wonder if I couldn't release it now.
