Sorry to interrupt but I'm new and am looking for a way to play online role playing with others. Does anyone know where I could at least discuss it with other people?

Please don't derail other people's threads - open a new one for any unrelated questions you might have. - Did that for you, now.

Does anyone know where I could at least discuss it with other people? ...And now, to your question: This place here is a good way to start; I see that you have already found at least one of the relevant threads. Otherwise, I strongly recommend our sister site, www.unseenservant.us/forum/ - there are fancier places available on the web, sure, but that one has a fairly low-fi approach, and a focus on oldschool-oriented gaming that I personally consider very unique, and that also most other seasoned PBP-players in the community have found to appreciate.

Are you looking for low-tech message board-based gaming, or do you prefer flashier, more gimmicky gaming websites?

If you want retro and original, this is where I cut my computer gaming teeth back in 76. cyber1.org/index.aspThey have a lot of the original RPG games, and also my personal favorite Empire: www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qodf2AjrEQoOnce you get an account check out lesson dnd, oubliette, avatar, futurewar, crypt. Crypt is fun because it has top down auto mapping and there is a site with info about things, to save you time learning everything yourself: balron.com/#/Avatar is the really popular multi player game: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Avatar_(1979_video_game)Get a sign on and learn the unique keystrokes and you'll have a blast. Oh, and the original wire frame vector graphics game: spasim en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SpasimThe original Battle Zone is on there too, but it's a multi player game.

Sorry to interrupt but I'm new and am looking for a way to play online role playing with others. Does anyone know where I could at least discuss it with other people? Hello, As Scott mentioned, you are welcome to browse the message boards for a text-based game. The games take place here on the boards, have various posting rates, and have various approaches to the game. If you are looking for a game similar to an in-person game, but is conducted over the internet, then the following is provided: If you are willing download and install third party applications, discord would be a good place to start. It is free to use. Let me know if you are interested and I'll forward you some servers that are relevant to some of the OSR/OD&D forums. From there you can expand as interests you and start your own server. A mic and headphones is useful, but the app can also run on a modern phone. Roll20 is a browser based system. It is also free to use with limitations. If you are willing to download the Steam client then Virtual Tabletop might be worth looking into. I have not used it, but have briefly spoken with some who have. I do not know if it is free or pay-to-play. Fantasy Grounds is the last of the current tools of which I am aware. I have not used it, but most that have used Virtual Tabletop have been familiar with it. I do not know if it is free or pay-to-play. Most of the above systems support chat style games, or voice over IP (VOIP) games (talking to each other with mic and headphones). Reach out if you have questions.
