Maybe this is blasphemy, but I'm even more excited about the t-shirt than the video! Too many choices, however. I can't decide "Killer DM" or "The Legend Begins" and in what color?

Whoops was responding and lost my post... I knew that text edit program was good for something. We are sort of doing it all backward. We actually have a movie draft of the entire 2 hours. We're just tweaking it and need to do a bit of fine tuning to get it ready to be seen as a product. From the very beginning it was a learning process. But we hid out and we actually are close to having something. So unlike a lot of people who might go to Kick Starter and grovel for cash, cuz we're gonna do amazing things later on! we are asking people to help fund the project directly via T-shirt sales. This means that no matter what, you got something more than a promise of an amazing gamer thing... later on! Finarvyn FYI - the shirt is an original Bob Bledsaw design made specifically for the film. Bob even donated the drawing to the project. So yes, you should want the shirt, because we'll do others and be yanking this one off the sales page after a bit. Perhaps two, one to wear and one to stash for the archives. d**n, I knew I should've bought 2 T-shirts when I saw that band on the first tour before they got famous! Here is the teaser video from youtube, it may change your mind about seeing the movie draft www.youtube.com/watch?v=CP2_go_YVCo

Thanks for the T-shirt purchase. you're gonna get the screener anyway, just watch it. Feel free to come here and make comments about it. You can say it sucked even. But tell me why first. he he he

I have watch, and oh boy...its great! Remembering its the raw version, it have a lot of great info. I love the story of the game, and its nice to see a different perspective. Its not to take sides, but its a wonderful work to have this kind of documentary, telling the story from other points of view.
You can see the passion on those players! What a great games they must had had ...

Watched it this AM. (From 5:00 to 5:30, before getting ready for work.)
I liked it. Of course, like most good "teaser" videos it ended before the actual creation of the First Fantasy Campaign. Made me want more. I did like the look into the Napoleonic games and Strateegos and how the philosophy of "playing a role" evolved.
It made me feel pretty nostalgic about the good old days of gaming. I didn't grow up in the Twin Cities, so I didn't get to personally witness much of what was in the video, but the notion of simplicity in rules and the fact that players didn't need to be rules masters ... that stuff was always a big part of my early gaming years and it continued when I ran games for my wife and sister and young kids.
No real criticism about the thing. 8)

I can't decide "Killer DM" or "The Legend Begins" and in what color? Having this problem now. I'm not a TPK kind of person, but if you do something silly, you are likely gonna get yourself killed, and if you don't interact with the world I put you in and just let things happen around you without getting involved, then NPCs are going to die. That said, both speak to me. SaveSave

Yeah, "the legend begins" might have been a better choice. So hard to know for sure.

It's interesting to see where one gathers a following. OSR is really big in Poland of all places. Thus we have a fairly large contingent of friends over there now. I am working on interviewing a player who is ref'ing strict no thieves OD&D in a campaign, which seems very interesting. It'll be curious if they introduce some of their own home rulings and such. Another friend of ours published a blog post about our screener. It is on his Polish language blog, but I simply cut pasted the text into a translator and got a good idea of what he had written. www.blekitnyswit.pl/2018/08/29/secrets-of-blackmoor-kopia-robocza/It's nice to see a favorable view on our project. I never assume that I know what I am doing, thus all the feed back is good to read.

nice! btw, what its you opinion about those "Living" project? Like a Living Blackmoor, with players in charge of specific regions. i think that would be very nice Well, seeing as Blackmoor was originally like that, and I think most historians who have read a great deal of Arneson writing might agree, it would merely be running Blackmoor the way it should be run. Arneson's idea of a campaign certainly wasn't entirely unique. Yet, his ability to comprehend the significance of using a multi tiered and scaled approach seems to be his alone. One see's it at least a year before Blackmoor in his napoleonic campaign that begins with a big Braunstein game where everyone is playing a single individual, then everyone becomes the leader of a country, and everyone also plays as a general, or admiral, and again, sometimes as a single individual. I think it was Jon Peterson who described the Napoleonic Campaign as "the greatest undertaking of its kind" in his book. Having seen the awesome quantity of papers, it's pretty clear why Arneson wanted to switch time periods to medieval. The paper based world level campaign, requires massive amounts of time and effort. Why do you ask about this?

We're doing a lot of marketing. I don't want to burden this forum with endless posts. And I do not expect people here to fund the project, as this is much more of a shared research community. We just posted this video and it contains some interesting anecdotes as well as the odd game clip or two, thought people would enjoy it as it's self and not worry about the whole Buy My Thing aspect. I do want people to notice the work of Alex Kharlamov the composer. He has added so much to what could be a really dry research documentary. Thanks! www.youtube.com/watch?v=gM8GHeFVHyA

Shirt ordered.
Went with "The Legend Begins..." after consulting the kiddo. When I read off the Killer DM qualifiers on the shirt's description, she said, "yeah..." thoughtful pause, "kind of..." in answer.
After I ordered the reason for the kiddo's reasoning finally dawned on me. She likes old school style play, but to her thinking, a DM in a "Killer DM" shirt self-fulfilling prophecy waiting to happen.

Watched the screener last night with my wife.
Lots of little tidbits of awesome and definitely left us both wanting to see more.
One note, I so want a live play video of the Blackmoor bunch's annual game! I really want to see these people play a full session, there way.
So much more to say, but I don't want to give anything away.

Well, there is that need to fund factor that can out weight actual content. Hopefully the old anecdotes in the videos is a decent compensation. Doing the interviews is always fascinating and fun. You can here me chuckle when he says he still can't remember what his character name is after 40 years.

Maybe we'll edit up a video at some point.
