NYT ObituaryGenerally not a fan of the usual "RIP" threads, but this one warrants a special mention: The grand dame of fantasy, perhaps, visionary and mentor to generations of modern writers. Hope she had a great life.

I somehow missed Earthsea as a kid, but finally read and greatly enjoyed the original trilogy about 7 years ago. The Tombs of Atuan was my favorite of three. The Earthsea archipelago was a delightful setting. I need to read more of her work. RIP

The only thing I have of hers was a short story she contributed to the Legends anthology hardcover I bought almost 20 years ago. Either way, sorry to hear of another great literary name passing and I extend condolences to her family.

I think she was one of the best science fiction authors ever. Sad news.

Thanks for bringing this to my attention. Like the other comments, I really enjoyed Left Hand of Darkness. Still haven't read Earthsea, but its in my backlog.

You should read Earthsea for sure. I'll point out that she is able to do an amazing amount of world building in novella length. Most post Tolkien world builders trying to generate massive amounts of pages, she didn't, earthsea is amazing.

Sad news. Earthsea is a great series and was influential on my younger RP experiences. Fair winds and following seas, Ursula.
