Look for a good and brief published (professional or amateur) sandbox setting. Something simple and useful I can build upon a desired. Any recommendations? Any edition and version of D&D welcomed.

Six of the seven modules in my sig (except for Crypt of the Lilac High Priest) are sandbox settings. Four modules are portions of the lands of Carcosa (swords & sorcery), though The Mountains of Dream is essentially Dunsanian. Two modules are portions of the Wilderness (basically an AD&Dized version of The Hobbit).

Those look very cool Geoffrey. I was looking for something more Leiber-like in feel.

The Dragon Warriors RPG Manual for the game's second edition is free/pay-what-you-want on DTRPG. www.drivethrurpg.com/product/90926/Dragon-WarriorsMaybe it's worth a look for you; the Lands of Legend are a vaguely D&D-ish place, and the introductory adventure included in the book is quite nice.
