Stumbled upon this little one-page gem tonight: Lasers & FeelingsIt's just good old fashioned imaginative RP'ing in the "Buck Rogers" and "Flash Gordon" tradition with a super-simple game mechanic. Might have to try this out some time. Edit: I apologize if this has been covered before.

Everyone should take some time to think up their own one-page or two-page RPG. It's fun! Mine is called Whip It Out

Nice! These would make great intro RPG's for kids, I think (and maybe some adults too!). They're even simpler than most "quick-start" rules out there.

Lasers... AND Feelings? I cannot not see how this could go wrong... Well... To be fair, it is better than them being stripped of their agency to become insufferably cheery nice-folks, all things considered.

BWAHAAHA! Despite the moniker, the title is simply a simple description of the scale of the game's mechanic. At one end is cold logic, reasoning, and technology (Lasers), and on the other end is empathy, intuition, and passion (Feelings). It's also inspired by this song.

Yeah, reading through it last night, it immediately struck me with a sense of "With Capt. Kurk out of commission, it is up to Mr. Spock and Dr. "Bones" McCoy to carry on the mission." character dynamic going on with the rules. I dig it. The song's reminds me of Steven Universe with how he wins over his adversaries. He is not a good fighter, but a natural peacemaker. One former adversary, a technician from a highly regimented and bureaucratic planet, spent a whole season learning and adapting to the chaotic nature of Earth and its people. It is an emotionally-complex (and heavy) show with lots of "Laser and Feelings" moments, so L&F would be great system to emulate what the show tries to convey. The show is so full of "The Feels"!

Yeah those are super cute. Here's the D&D version from reddit: If I was to remake it — a fantasy version of Lasers and Feelings — it would be called Conan & Bilbo, here is were I would change it: 3. Choose your number, from 2 to 5. A high number means you’re better at being CONAN (action-oriented; conqueror; lawless; commanding; instinct-driven; hedonistic; stoic; all-around badass). A low number means you’re better at being BILBO (reluctant hero; wit and diplomacy over fighting; law-abiding; persuasive; prepares for trouble; respectful of others; sympathetic; all-around nice guy). |
Mind you, this is a play on fantasy preferences.
