Well, like it says. Anyone interested in passing on the love? I'm not looking for anything collectible--just a box, three books, and maybe reference sheets. Reply here or PM me if yer interested.

I also have many, many things worth trading, should such an offer entice...

Hey Kesher, I hope this question isn't offensive...I was wondering what the draw would be for an original white box if you're not looking for something collectible?
Is it something like having the original words in your hands as a hardcopy as opposed to digital?

Wow. I can't believe that I never thought to just... ask! Well, obviously the honorable Mr. Kesher has "dibs" rights, but I would be interested in the same thing for the exact same reason (that's right - jumping on the Barnum Band Wagon!). I have the PDF's and I've printed out my own set (heck, even found a white box to put them in), but it just isn't the same. I've kept my eye out on ebay and such, but the asking prices and minimum bids are just always so outrageous. I don't want to collect it; I want to use it. Anyway, after kesher secures a copy, I'd like to be next in line if at all possible. I'm willing to purchase and/or trade ('though my stock is limited).

I mean, seriously? I just checked ebay and someone (with a 100% seller rating mind you) is offering a beat-up white box, with equally beaten supplements, for $795!! I could see if it was in excellent condition, but that's highway robbery! I assumed since the PDF's are available, and it's easy enough to print them out, that the prices on the non-pristine copies would fall. Well, you know what they say about assuming... Heck, AD&D hardbacks are a dime a dozen, so why not a crusty old white box?

Heck, AD&D hardbacks are a dime a dozen, so why not a crusty old white box? Yeah, the prices rose first after Dave's passing, and then again after Gary's. Don't foresee them ever going down... Don't get me wrong, though--that's a ridiculous price, even if it's pre-5th printing, AND in good shape; though I guess the market will bear what the market will bear... There are reasonable deals out there, depending on what you want. Noble Knight Games, FREX, has the three booklets in excellent condition for $90 (not sure what printing); that doesn't seem too inflated to me. I just happen to also want a box in decent shape. Plus I like to try transactions like this in the community before I head outside.

When I bought the Wizards of the Coast OD&D reprint box, I told myself that I would finance it by selling off my old White Box afterwards. Funny thing though, I couldn't bring myself to do it.

I was opposite -- I didn't have a white box set when I got the WOTC reprint. I thought "Wow, for $150 this'll be the only time I'll ever get to read the OD&D rules!" less than a year later I found a 5th print white box. Splurged. Oops.

I was thinking of getting the WotC reprint. I also check ebay from time to time andI can hardly believe the prices. Even Swords & Wizardry Whitebox by Brave Halfling is like $150 and Delving Deeper Box is $100.

I've got a Wotc OD&D reprint box that I'd part with. I'm not getting any use out of it, and have been debating selling it off to Wayne's Books for the past 6 months.

I'd love to have a WotC reprint, but not at the price that they sold the thing at or the price seen on e-bay. Since I already have an original white box, this would be more of a curiosity than anything else. I wonder why they didn't market an inexpensive non-premium OD&D after the premium ones sold out.

Yeah, it is a shame they can't bring it down to something more reasonable, like say $50.00 for the whole set.

Is it just something you're not interested in having, or do have an original box already? I don't have an original box. I bought the OD&D reprint box a few years ago, because I wanted to learn more about the origin of D&D - the mechanics, the playstyle, what it was all about. My start with D&D began in 1981, with the Moldvay Basic Set. So, anything prior was a big unknown. I don't play much D&D these days - any edition. So, I'm really not likely to get any use out of the reprint box. Plus I own PDFs of a number of OD&D books in the rare chance that I do want to reference them.
