I am talking Cosmic Encounter, Machiavelli, Kingmaker, Diplomacy, Civilization etc.
Which ones have you played? What were your experiences like?
Thanks, I'd like to try more of these

All of the above We just played Advanced Civilization a couple weeks back with 7 players and I have done some beta testing for Cosmic Encounter expansions with FFG over the past few years.

My local group played a lot of Civilization bitd. We stopped playing most big straight up wargames (too much work and they were harder to finish as we went to college and work) at some point but continued w/ Civ. I played Kingmaker a couple of times and really liked it. It never caught on with the group though. I have played a few games of Dip, mostly online.
A couple of multi-player wargames we played a fair amount were Third Reich and Swords and Sorcery. S&S has a few 3 and more player scenarios and we had a lot of fun at first although we found that large combats kind of bogged down.

This is one of my favorite genres of gaming. I love Dune, Civilization, Divine Right, Excalibur, Kings and Castles, Revolt on Antares and Kingmaker. I’m a fan of Mare Nostrum (and the newer Mare Nostrum: Empires), Cosmic Encounter, History of the World and Borderlands.
For more recent takes on the genre I enjoy Space Empires 4X, Antike II, Genesis: Empires and Kingdoms of the Ancient Middle East, RISK Europe, and Conquest of Paradise.
The one I most want to play is probably GMT’s Sword of Rome.

History of the World is our group's favourite. Six-player, but you could expand it to 7 if you made some markers and treated the Sumerians as a player-civilization (which we did).
The SPI game Swords and Sorcery has a great 4-5 player scenario of Cronks vs Endore vs Swamp Creatures vs Corflu Cultists vs the Empire. It was a staple of our get-togethers back in the day. Divine Right is also a great multi-player game.
For more hardcore wargamers, if you have an entire weekend to play and are experienced wargamers, (!!) SPI Empires of the Middle Ages is awesome, and the up-to-7 player scenario of the 1st Crusade in SPI's The Crusades is a blast

I have played The Sword and the Stars but I need to play Empires!

You have to have a sense of humor. We played the 1200-1300 scenario 6 player and I got to start with King John (2-2-2) and then later he died heirless! I think John was better than his press - a capable general, and a competent administrator. He was just bankrupted by Richard's crusades

Richard Hamblen's Merchants of Venus is a good, easy multi-player game also

My all-time favorite for multi-player games is Kingmaker. I got a lot of otherwise non-gamers (but most of them history buffs) to play this. And I even got my mother-in-law to try Cosmic Encounter!
If you like Cthulhu and related themes, you might find the various games from Fantasy Flight enjoyable group exercises--Arkham Horror, Eldritch Horror, and Mansions of Madness.
The COIN (Counterinsurgency) games from GMT are usually set up for four players. I've played Andean Abyss, A Distant Plain, Cuba Libre, and Fire in the Lake and thought they were all good. Didn't care as much for Liberty or Death, though.
GMT's Successors, Pax Romana, and Genesis are all excellent multi-player titles from the ancient period. Pretty serious wargames, though; they're not something a casual gamer is going to pick up on easily. And The God Kings from Compass covers some of the same ground as Genesis; same quality, with the same caveat.

We used to play 4-player Kremlin in college. It was silly fun
(One of my room-mates co-owned the FLGS, so I tried a LOT of games!)

Diplomacy can be very stressful and everyone can end up angry with each other. Cosmic encounter is a heck of a lot of fun, and always a new experience full of surprises every time you play it! I might like cosmic encounter more than D&D! It works best if you have 3+ people, and if you have all 6 then it can get really crazy
