I'm really not sure where to ask this. I need your help.
Many many folks have produced supplements of various kinds for OD&D. The physical look of some of them is authentic: 6" x 9", beige cover, the olden font and so forth. I would like to put an authentic cover on one of my books. One that looks like the LBBs. Instead of making it imperfectly from scratch, is there a template somewhere, or can someone who made one help me figure out how to do it?

There was actually a big discussion here several years ago about that very thing, you might be able to dig around and find it. I remember there being some good discussion about materials/font/layout/etc.

A friend of mine found the solution to this interesting challenge and forwarded it to me. Because it's not my work and I don't have permission to share it, it's an unfortunate dead end for the community here. Still looking for a clean lead to share.

I looked over the full-size preview, but it didn't look all that LBB-ish, IMO. YMMV.

I believe the Scott's best bet is simply to go with the original fonts (Futura and Quentin Caps?) and print the covers on some appropriately-textured card (unless, of course, someone shares their layout files with him).

I'm sorry that I don't have a template. I made the cover to the 2008 CARCOSA through trial-and-error.

On the topic of fonts, painful experience with customers has taught me that beauty of typography is no substitute for universality when it comes to PDFs. To avoid all manner of problems prople seem to have with font/ PDF reader/ hardware combinations, I mostly stick to Arial and Times Roman now. I rasterise cover fonts.

What software do you have available? I could share something from InDesign. Attached is a screenshot of the file (have not done this before, hopefully it works). It would be better if I could identify the sans serif fonts exactly. This is using Quentin EF for the D&D, Gill Sans MT for the author names, and Trade Gothic Bold (and Bold 2) for the rest. In addition to the initial template, I've now farmed out the work to a clever friend who is doing the layout quite laboriously. Results to follow.
