If anyone is using a historical setting for his game, he may find this list by a Berkeley academician useful. Interesting read! Medieval Prices

Nice find! Thanks for sharing. It also has links to other periods, which I also game (I've been thinking about using Classic Traveller for an 18th-century campaign).

I didn't see that thread Sepulchre-good stuff. I saw the list while trying to find the price of ship construction, time to build, etc. Unfortunately it doesn't have anything about that--still searching for a place with some quick concise historical European lists.

Hmmm...try the "High Seas" article in Dragon 116, I cannot speak to the historicity of prices and repairs, but the author at least lists sources and all appear to speak to the subject. For historical conversion, after losing sleep over trying to make sense of it all, I use this formula (equipment lists in the AD&D PHB, and wages in AD&D DMG and the ship prices in this article): Weapons, armor and items: prices in gp translate to silver(d.)deniers by multiplying by 10 Wages: prices in silver pieces translate directly to silver (d.) deniers.
If you don't have a copy of 116, message me and I will email you a pdf.

Right on! And that sounds like a good conversion. Thank you. Thought about using PHB but had no idea how to exchange the currencies.

FWIW, this is how I price things in Meleon's former kingdom of Asterion, where metals, spices, and tradable goods are supposedly a rare commodity: odd74.proboards.com/post/183007

Xerxes, sorry for the delay. I am running Firefox for internet access and it has been failing to download and upload; so here is a link to the article:

Please don't publicly share material that is otherwise under copyright, folks, even if it's out of print.
We want this board to be unfethered by any sorts of legal mumbo-jumbo, so we cannot condone this.
