We played an epic session of TMNT way back when, likely coincident in time with Kesher's experience. I recall it as essentially a mashup of Gamma World and Top Secret. The party were all mutant tree frogs

Other than osr D&D variants I currently run Mutant Year Zero and play in Numenera. One game that we return to again and again is Call of Cthulhu.

Is that the one that uses a 2d2 system? If so, I'd like to hear more about it. (Since there are 2d20 Conan and 2d20 John Carter games coming out soon....)

Outside of any edition of D&D, what are your favourite roleplaying games? ... What else do you play? Astonishing Swordsmen & Sorcerers of Hyperborea. Love the setting! If I could find someone to run games and the time to play them, I'd love to play RuneQuest 2, Traveller, RIFTS, Star Wars, Call of Cthulhu, Marvel Superheroes, TMNT and probably lots of others I'm forgetting.

For RPG over the years we've probably played AD&D better than 95% of the time. Other games we've played, roughly sorted by frequency, include the following:
1. Marvel Super Heroes (Basic) 2. Top Secret 3. Star Frontiers 4. Shadow Run 5. Boot Hill 6. Gamma World 7. Twilight 2000 8. Call of Cthuhlu

You can pretty much reread my complete gaming trajectory of the last 15 years over here: odd74.proboards.com/thread/11364/adventures-blackmoor-last-fantasy-campaignodd74.proboards.com/thread/11224/adventures-meleonThese days, in the rare occasion that I run a game, any more, due to a busy schedule, and all, I greatly favor the DCC RPG. Historically, World of Darkness, in different variations, is probably the system I am most acquainted with, outside of D&D, because we used WoD for Ravenloft. Apart from that, "Dragon Warriors", all sorts of d20 variants, and stuff like Warhammer FRP still float around in my bookshelf, but, really, I am quite probably never going to run them, any more. D&D, or some quick-play simulacrum it is, for me, and I am pretty sure it will do so until I put down the dice. Other systems, I obviously like, too, but those are for others to run, not me.

Advanced Dungeons & Dragons, First Edition RuneQuest, Second Edition Call of Cthulhu, Third Edition Star Wars, First Edition
But I think of them all as offshoots of OD&D, and I try to run them OD&Dishly. Especially the first two.

Currently, a short campaign of the japanese RPG Ryuutama. The cutest rpg ever. But it's located in my D&D campaign world, in a part I never really had an opportunity to play in.

Is that the one that uses a 2d2 system? If so, I'd like to hear more about it. (Since there are 2d20 Conan and 2d20 John Carter games coming out soon....) Well, not really, its more like xd2. Here's a quote (from this review: www.rpg.net/reviews/archive/16/16316.phtml) on how the dice works: M:YZ uses six-sided dice. If a skill is used, the character rolls as many green skill dice as his skill level plus as many yellow base dice as the attribute number relevant to the skill. Gear dice can also be added if gear is used. If he rolls at least one 6 (ionizing radiation) irrespective of the amount of dice rolled, he succeeds. The more sixes are rolled the better; they can be used for stunts. Each skill description states how the skill is used, what happens in case of a success or a failure and what potential stunts might be. If however no sixes are rolled, things go wrong. Rarely does this mean 'nothing happens'. The GM is actively encouraged to state the consequences of failure. However, the player can always decide to push his roll in order to change his predicament. All dice that did not come up as biohazards can be rerolled. That strains the character however. For every biohazard that was rolled in either of the two rolls, the PC sustains a point of trauma to the relevant attribute. On the good side, each point of trauma gained this way gets the character a mutation point. These are indispensable to activate the character's mutations. In short, for a character to be able to activate his mutant powers more often, he needs to be pushing himself to the limit. Explosions on the gear dice mean that the gear degrades; it might or might not get fixed in the future. But my group uses the alternative BRP-based rules system since it suits our play style better and is closer to what we are used to from the old editions of Mutant.

How is that one going for you? - I saw the Kickstarter, last year, and thought that this, indeed, would be something interesting to try. The only thing holding me up are time constraints, and then, of course, the dread I have of players that embrace the anime aspect too much. But as a game for kids, or for a group that likes old games like "Harvest Moon", this might be a pretty sweet choice.

The OP specifically said "outside of any edition of D&D," which I interpreted as anything officially branded as "D&D" and assumed also included attempts at faithful clones (like OSRIC or Delving Deeper). It's not a big deal. /shrug

A few years ago I found my way back to D&D through Labyrinth Lord. I was wanting to get back to B/X and couldn't find any sets for sale locally, or on the internet that appealed to me. Anyway before that, and outside of any version of D&D, I've had the most fun running Marvel Superheroes and Gurps. Honarable mentions for me are Mechwarrior (1st Edition)and Car Wars. An extra special shout out to Hideouts & Hoodlums by our own Scottenkainen. It is kind of a version of D&D, but I had a great time running the one session I've been able to put together, and I recommend it to anyone who likes D&D and golden age superheros.

Currently and in the future OD&D will be the only game I run. That said, there are a number of games that I would like to play in. Pendragon and 7th Sea come readily to mind.

My group basically just plays D&D in various forms (anything from OD&D to 5e or S&W to Astonishing Swordsmen & Sorcerers of Hyperborea).
Others games have included Star Wars d20, Savage Worlds, and Tombstone (my own game).
I'd like to run some Classic Traveller, Call of Cthulhu, or White Box Warhammer.

I'mjust learning about the Ryuutama game now. Maybe I can modify it for a Middle-earth campaign. It could make sense. Travel is the main theme, magic is not overpowered and can easily let off, characters are peasants, artisans, musicians, you could easily play The Hobbit with this game.

Currently playing King Arthur Pendragon (5th ed). We're about fifteen years into the Great Pendragon Campaign. (Each session is about a year of game time if you're not up on Pendragon).

I've Admin'd a few games of TOP SECRET/S.I. back in high school. Nowadays, my gaming is play-by-post, mostly BECMI/RC. I'm also currently running a science-fantasy set in Blackmoor in the years before the Great Rain of Fire using the Alternity rules.

I'm intending to run a 1e Vampire: The Masquerade game, possibly as a play-by-post game on this forum if anyone is interested.
