Back in the early to mid-90's I watched a movie that was about a culture/world that was facing the possibility of an eclipse of unknown length of time. I remember there was a part about people flocking to a blind prophet of the blind god, in fact one of the female characters voluntarily had her eyes pecked out by crows/ravens. It seemed that the world was only working in copper and/or bronze. I also remember two of the main characters fighting with a crystal swords in a pool of water. Another scene I remember is a group of sun worshipers dancing to honor the sun in the beginning of the movie. The clothing worn seemed to have a middle east influence crossed with Hellenistic era Mediterranean.
Does anyone else remember this film? I have tried to find something on IMDB but have come up empty handed after an hour or so of searching.

My wife vaguely remembers them and also reminded me that the movies probably came out in the late 70's or sometime in the 80's.

Yes, I believe you are thinking of the movie Nightfall - unfortunately, the movie stank...at least in comparison to the original Asimov short story, which you can here read here: EscapePod Episode 100 - NightfallIt has been voted by the Science Fiction Writers of America as one of the best SF stories ever written. I saw the movie when it was out in the theatres...it was kind of funny - there were less than a dozen people in the theatre at the showing, and when the end credits started to roll after a VERY anti-climactic ending, someone said out loud "Well, that was NOTHING like the book..." That said, I do have one little warm spot for the movie - it was filmed at Acrosanti, the arcology that Paolo Soleri is trying to build out in the mountains of northern Arizona...neat, neat architecture. And listen to that podcast if you've never read the story...go..right now! What are you waiting for?
