Good news folks! It looks like the OD&D PDFs are doing to be dropped into RPGNow/DnDClassics by Wizards. My RPGNow library just updated from a purchase in 2007 and I was able to download the cleaned up books from the collector's set.

I received an email from WOTC letting me know that the file was updated. I immediately went to Drive Thru RPG and downloaded them again...Happy Day!

Now, if they'd just include them in the Dungeon Masters Guild offer, I think they'd get a lot of responses.

Any idea how much they will cost? I would love to check some of the Supplements I have only ever read about.

Thanks for the heads up! I was just able to purchase them. The price is $9.99 for the first three books, but no reference sheets (despite the description). Good quality, bookmarked PDFs. Hopefully the supplements will be coming along soon.

This is awesome. I might actually be able to get OD&D for myself. I'll still use Swords & Wizardry White Box for now though.

Ten Bucks, same as pretty much every other edition rulebook. Great news!

It's about time! Even without the reference sheets, I want to pick this up as soon as I can. Hopefully this easy and cheap availability will help spread the knowledge and love of the original edition even farther.

Very cool, I'll be grabbing them tonight.
Now I'm thinking of selling off my Premium OD&D box...

I was very pleased to see that they had been added as a revision to the previous PDFs, rather than being listed as a completely new product. The free update for people who, like myself, were able to buy them the first time around is appreciated, even if the new cover art seems slightly at odds with the style of the game. A very minor quibble, however.

The OD&D PDF's come out good on a print, so I have my spiral-bound version of the 3 volumes combined in one. Printed 2 sided on good paper stock. The interior cover pictures were printed in green to provide a tab-like division. The covers are printed in cover on card stock to provide an extra measure of division. At the end, I have added the following materials which I have accumulated from various sources (with my thanks to those involved):
- Gary Gygax's Whitebox house rules - combined and on one page - early Thief addition - Balrog reference - Spectre/Nazgul 3rd edition M&T reference - write-up of Thoul, with some personal edits/additions - old picture of Hobgoblin - missing text from UW&WA - Other Construction and Equipment Costs, p. 21-22 - SR Vol I - Questions Most Frequently Asked - Wargamer's Digest Vol I - Swords and Sorcery in Wargaming - Europa 6-8 Apr. 1975 - How to Set Up Your D&D Campaign - Extracts from Chainmail regarding Land Combat, including Fantasy Supplement & Appendix 3

Good stuff! All you need to add now is the text of The Dying Earth.

Actually, the PDFs were still downloadable by those who had bought them long after they were pulled.

If you check out that link above to Gary's white box houserules, you will see that he also had rules dating from 2007. What I did is combine them with the 2005 rules because I did not see inconsistency between them. Where there was any apparent conflict, I generally favored the player. I also added a reference to the FAQ: Characters above DEX 12 get +1 to initiative rolls.

Actually, the PDFs were still downloadable by those who had bought them long after they were pulled. Here is the exact text of the email I got from DTRPG, where I purchased the OD&D PDFs... There were no follow-up emails telling me they had made any kind of exception and that I could resume downloading my past WotC purchases past April 16, 2009! If that's the case, they really F'd up---all the more reason to be mad!!! Additionally, I purchased over 100 AD&D and B/X D&D rulebooks and adventure modules from Paizo. These are still gone for good AFAIK. Here is the email I got from them...

I have to admit that it came out pretty nice, and I did have the covers printed in color to have the D&D come out in red . . . but it is just a $10 binding job at a local Fed Ex store . . .

Okay, so, what are and how do you get Gary's house rules? I have compiled the house rules and many of the other documents mentioned here altogether in the links and resources section.
