I realize that the LBBs are spare with respect to description of appearance, but there is something I have been wondering about vis a vis lycanthropes. It is unclear to me whether lycanthropes are encountered in a man-like form or in a more bestial shape, and when to apply such descriptors. Do lycanthropes only become monstrous under the light of a full moon? Does the game distinguish between human, animal, or intermediate forms as later editions do (I'm thinking in particular of 3rd edition)? This passage from Blackmoor lends some hints as well:
"Another aspect of lycanthropy is that men who are bitten by an animal will assume that animal's form, but retain human direction and intelligence. The reverse is true if an animal is the victim." (Blackmoor pp. 23-24) [emphasis mine]
Does the latter sentence imply that animals infected with lycanthropy can transform into a man-like form? This passage is intriguing to me, as it suggests dimensions to lycanthropy which I had not previously considered. I realize that much of this is a descriptive and opinion-based, and I am curious to hear what others feel about this.

It is a bit strange how the LBBs describe them as living in packs or family packs. Since they are often encountered in the wilderness, this seems to give the impression that they have their own like of life/culture/society as do most other monsters.
I would guess that they live in villages, and use their shift into were-form to surprise prey. Furthermore I'll blindly speculate that the were-wolves would be like the wolfman of the old horror films, given the time and culture the LBBs were written. Then again, it could be more informed by folklore, and go from man to beast with no in-between. Like you said, nothing is very clear.
Interesting bit about lycanthropes Blackmoor. I haven't really read any of the supplements cover to cover (not that interested, to be totally honest) so that was new to me.
