Is anyone else a fan of this series? I was literally compelled to watch by my wife and step children and am pleased to say I love it and am very glad I have a long way to go to go through every episode and this is a series where every episode deserves at least one or two extra watches.
The thing I really like about this animated series (aside form great art and writing) is that the culture really evokes Tekumel as to dress, customs, and architecture.
I have never seen the live action film but am told by many it was a real stinker.
But this is fun.
Over the weekend we had kids at the house who are fans of the show and I ran a three hour D&D game for them based on Avatar. They loved it. They played two fire nation benders and their water bender prisoner and undertook a quest from Earthbenders to seek a relic from an ancient Temple, which one decided to give to the Avatar.
Anyway, in looking I cant see any game spinoffs yet, unless I missed one.

I absolutely agree--my three boys AND my wife watched it, too, and anime is not something my wife is often interested in. How did you work the bending powers?

There's not been a licensed RPG product yet, that I've seen. Avatar had a large following once in freeform roleplaying, but I don't know what's become of that community.
Yes, the movie was un-enjoyable. It basically sucked all the fun out from the animated series and wanted to show you instead how tortured the Avatar was by the death of his people. It was also an excuse to get a lot of Indian actors exposure to a mainstream U.S. audience.

Scott I haven't even seen the movie. .My wife and her family all dish on it but all are huge fans of the animated series.
Kesh I was doing the d100 freeform rules- high rolls are bad, etc. Had them declare desired effect and if they rolled good it was as described! They were ten and eleven year olds but now it seems they loved it and I have parents saying I have to run a game for all of them again.
I'm thrilled they had fun. One monster I enjoyed throwing at them was an Owl Griffin!
