Combat potential of horses alone, obtained by subtracting combat ability of man from combat ability of man+horse. Attack potential was determined by comparing horse attack to that of each troop type. Defense potential was determined by comparing suitability based on AF/LH attack tables. In each case (attack potential and defense potential), the additional man values were the same. Horse Class | Light foot | Heavy foot | Armored foot | Light horse | 2 | 1 | 0 | Medium horse | 5 | 3 | 1 | Heavy horse | 8 | 5 | 2 |
In mass combat situations, the lower class is always used to determine troop type of horse+rider, rendering this table irrelevant. Therefore, this table is intended for use in resolving man-to-man scale combat using the mass combat tables, when the rider's class is different than his mount's or when a horse is in combat alone. House Rule: Horse attacks as horse against men it has charaged/engaged that turn. In all other combats, horse fights as its corresponding foot class. ie. LH->LF, etc.

That makes sense. It would take eight lightly- or un-trained men to corral a destrider on the warpath.

I think a lot of people who haven't been around horses fail to realize just how big they are. A horse can easily be taller at the shoulder than a man's head is height. Horses are really big and strong and smart and fast.

An interesting concept, but I suspect it's slightly flawed in that a horse-rider combo is probably stronger than each individually. Riderless horses don't line up in formations, make charges, and so on.

Absolutely, fin. I am not attempting to provide the combat statistics for a lone horse.
This is meant for finding the man value of an x foot character in a game of d&d riding an x horse. eg. If your fighting man fights as 2 AF as is riding a MH, he fights as 3 AF or HH.
