New guy here, not new to gaming, but new to OD&D and OSR material. I like it so far from what I have been researching. I am also a huge fan of Big Eyes Small Mouth and early White Wolf material as well.

Welcome, darien. I've played my share of Big Eyes, Small Mouth and have some familiarity with White Wolf (I only played Vampire once, but I have the old books, including the unofficial Highlander supplement).

I'd have sworn on a stack of Bibles that I registered on this forum years ago (having had a ProBoards account for a while)....but apparently not. A few here may remember me (Havard, Finarvyn, Falconer) from either the Castles & Crusades boards, Knights & Knaves Alehouse or even the old Pied Piper Publishing Boards. Anyway.....

Welcome keolander. You have to start out at 'Level 0 Flunky' here - I would suggest picking a fight with some Giant Rats or centipedes to start gaining exp. Welcome

Many folks contacted me over the summer/fall/winter asking where I had gone, and why. I am here to give thanks to you all, (and especially Urieal, Ken and Leo) for your good thoughts.
On 29 May, I had a heart attack and nearly died. I think I somehow knew the curtains were coming down, since I had inexplicably wound down a lot of my life in the month prior. But the good news is I lived and my family still has Dad.
I've spent the last seven months getting healthier and spending time with folks I know IRL. Only in the last month did I pick up my RPG hobby again.
Prediction: I won't be here a lot. Or on any of the usual boards. I have slightly different priorities now. To the degree that RPGs figure in, it's more playing in person games than talking about em with the assembled host online. But that's just a prediction. Who knows?
Treasure Hunters is still a thing. With the benefit of several months away, there's lots that needs to be done there. I question the value of all-d6 D&D, because it's impossible to FLAILSNAILS. But the foundation is still good, and it's still just for fun!
You know where to reach me. I'll definitely do the email thing. Thank you all for your good wishes in my absence.
Merry Christmas!

Scott Anderson, glad you're okay. You were missed and I had wondered where you had been off to. I hope D&D can bring recreation to you. And the recreation bring healing and meaningful relationships. Blessings.

Whadaya say guys? Just wanted to say hello. Just joined the board. Found my way here through a link on another site. Got back into gaming fairly recently, after about a 20 year hiatus. I'm interested in mostly D&D history and all things Greyhawk.

Hello, Maximus! That illustration you use as an avatar... I like it. *Makes Gollum sound.* Do you know where it is from?

So many newcomers and returnees filling the ranks. Perhaps this game has a future after all.

Thank you, Max! Hmmm... Very interesting. Likely, it's originally been taken from one of those second-gen online galleries. Anyone remember "Elfwood"?

Hello all, I am new here. I tried to join the site almost a year ago but failed the aptitude tests. Anyways, OD&D came out before I was born. I have had the pleasure and honor of playing with a lot of the old guard at the last couple of Gary Con's I was at. Thanks to help from others I was able to track down a woodgrain box for collector's sake, and a white box to read and play from. Had fun in Michael Mornard's Magic Users With Knives last year. I will be at the upcoming Gary Con as well. Been a long time lurker here and now due to technical difficulties notwithstanding, will post! For what it's worth, my first D&D experience was in 1988, so I can't offer much in the line of old school gaming but I am keenly interested in reading all here and participating more as time goes on. I think this is a great community with a lot of great information. It's not so much reliving the past for me as in discovering a past that pre-existed my gaming life. Not to mention all the great advice I have read. Wonderful site and I look forward to perusing more as time goes by! Mr. Manowar aka, the guy in the Manowar T-shirts at Gary Con and whatever other place I frequent.

Hi everyone! I was born in 1996 (19 years old now) in France, and discovered three cool booklets called AD&D 2 "introduction books" in my uncle's room (where I used to play with the Playstation and Computer, two things that struck me with awe after years of mostly running around imagining things). I didn't "get" the whole games at that time, since I must have been like, 7 or 8. But in a small part of my small head, I remembered those weird rulebooks and the cool monsters pic.
Flash forward to 12 yo me, when my parents insisted heavily on the idea that I find something social to do, after getting expelled from middle school for reasons and not having much friends at that time. I'm looking through different clubs and finding nothing of interest, until I read "Dragonnets : Jeux d'Aventure" (Hatchlings : Adventure Games) and think "hey, maybe they do RPGs there?!"
And they do RPGs there indeed. A small tribe of 40 to mid 60 yo people, all or so friends since forever, playing tons of games I've never heard of. Intimidating at first, but quickly welcoming and cheerful as they got to know the "new kid" (I think at that time there were two teens aged 16).
Starting from this point, I became more and more involved with RPGs, but also learned how to express myself, manage my long standing fear of social interactions until it ceased existing, some maths and some english. I also started a three years long campaign of mostly freeform AD&D (for I didn't care much for the rules at that time and could count on the old guys to remind me what to roll when playing with them) which bore fruits, to the point where I had almost everyone playing RPG around me at that table at some point or another.
Flash forward to a year ago. I moved out of my parents place and city to go study Modern Litterature and be close to best friend and lover alike. There I found almost nobody knowing much about RPGs, which is most people even in the 18-25 age range (most of french roleplayers are the old guard, 50 and so). And thus I started preaching the good word, and found myself a few different (somewhat tiny at first, but the online one grew up well) groups of players (and some DMs) to play with. Around that same time, I stumbled upon Lamentations of the Flame Princess, a heavy metal B/X retroclone with modern sensibilities in design (not so much in artwork, but I don't mind those things), and I fell in love again with D&D. For a year, I learned as much as I could about D&D, in its earlier iterations mostly, since I never really enjoyed 3 & 4e (I ran 5e, it went smoothly, but I'm not in love with it), and tried my hands around a thousand times at homebrewing my own DIY version. I failed, obviously, and eventually found Torch & Sword, which is the closest book I found to OD&D (since the goal is not to make up things but to put the actual LBBs in a somewhat cleaned up -but not pre-interpreted or organised- fashion to make the reading easier). And about yesterday, I stumbled upon posts about Gary Gygax's house rules, realised those were the same house rules I used when DMing my first campaign without knowing half the game, and I decided that was a part of the D&D I missed, thus starting to add said houserules in the appropriate section of Torch & Sword (and, at some point, the LBBs if I ever manage to read them efficiently), with the intention to run exactly that to my RL group, which starts again in a week or so.
Aside from RPG, I enjoy Story Games, books (Chuck Palahnuik, Amy Hempel & Shakespeare being my favorite writers), cinema (David Lynch, David Fincher & Clint Eastwood), music (french and US rap, vivaldi, a few french artists too -we have good ones-) and videogames (The Silent Hill trilogy -and the odd 4th too- and Metal Gear Solid trilogy -again, what's with 4th games?- are my go-to games, and I play Chivalry those days). I also enjoy learning to play the harmonica.
I've registered here when I saw the PbP section, which intrigues me. I don't know whether there are places left nor if I'll have the possibility to play or DM something in there, but I'd be glad to just watch and learn for use with my online group later.
TL;DR : Fresh meat from France, likes OD&D, has trouble with the layout of LBBs, interested in PbP, glad to be here!
