In every village there is a record keeper. He is chosen from birth, and it is a prestigious honor to be chosen. On his 20th birthday, when he has stopped growing, the record keeper takes over the old record keeper's role in the village. He tattoos his body with every event of major importance to the village. After 20 years, his skin is removed and added to the book of records, and a new keeper takes his place.
