And the victorious OD&D cadres break out into song!
"Cueste lo que cueste se ha de conseguir que los boinas rojas entren en Madrid."
Points if you know that one.

I hope this doesn't rankle the 3e grognards.
(Seriously. There are people referring to 3e holdouts as "grognards" now.)

All Your Base Are Belong to OD&D(1974)
after a long hard struggle i'm finally making some headway in the battle to restore OD&D to its rightful place.

Wow. I don't have any axe to grind with 4e, other than not being interested in playing it, but that's absolutely terrible, just a total mess. On a related note, during the short period when I couldn't get on the forum yesterday, I found an rpg.net discussion in which Larry Elmore was cited as part of D&D's "artistic roots."

I don't know. Maybe it's just me but I find both the ENWorld and WotC "pranks" to be neither funny nor respectful toward D&D's past. Particularly in light of the acrimony 4e has generated in the hobby, I think a better approach would have been to make fun of the new edition in a self-aware way.
But maybe I'm just overly sensitive.

Loved the ENWorld make-over, hated the WotC one.

OD&D(1974) is the one true game. All the other editions are just poor imitations of the real thing.

Have any of you actually drilled down through the front page on the Wizards site? Check out the "Players Handbook and Monster Manual Errata".
This reminds me of some of the classic April issues of the Dragon, back in the day.
And I don't see anybody dissing the One True Game; I see a bunch of gamers having fun with the day, as we usually do.

I think the EN World / Diaglo joke is hilarious. I just wish it would stay that way. I find the WOTC one a bit in poor taste insofar as it seems to equate older D&D with a crappy appearance. Which is not to say that the current stuff isn't more slick (it is, even though I actually prefer the older art), but I find it a somewhat superficial joke. Not a big deal, but not very funny to me.

I thought the ENWorld stuff was hilarious and also while trying to be hilarious it actually was truthful.
I thought their top ten list was nearly spot on:
Here are the top ten reasons why OD&D is the one true game, whilst all others are but pale imitations.
I'd say all but the MU one are spot on. Since the MU actually makes an ok fighter in OD&D even with no spell, as all weapons do 1d6 dmg. Now you just have to lay a hit on someone. =)
