Can you explain to me the allure of Google plus?
I went to a site for OD&D and didn't like the organization of the thing. It all seemed linear instead of being divided up into sections. When I used to use old Yahoo groups or was a member of the T&T Trollhalla I encountered linear message boards, and my experinece was that I was constantly losing cool stuff that would pass me by. I had to read through all sorts of posts I didn't have interest in so that I could find a few that I liked.
That was a huge inspiration as to why I started the TrollBridge board and this place. I have these compartments and I can read the ones that interest me the most and ignore the rest.
Not trying to be really negative here, but I'd love to understand.

Can you explain to me the allure of Google plus? I don't dislike it, but I'm not particularly fond of Google Plus either. I prefer the forums but, judging from the way the S&W site's traffic dropped to zero when the G+ group opened? I'd say we're in the minority.

Joined. Thanks for starting this community!
Google+ has its problems (especially since the last update made it harder to tell what order things were posted), but overall I enjoy it as well as forums. The use of people's real names seems to make people less likely to be jerks. Google hangouts are really the big draw since they're the best alternative to face-to-face gaming.

I am pretty lukewarm about google plus but it is another channel with more eyeballs. Fin, you might benefit by plugging these boards. A lot of plus posts are links to blog posts.

So, what does the group talk about?
I don't have Google Plus, and before I sign up I'd like to know more about the group. Is it discussing CHAINMAIL in general, or talking about using it as a miniatures wargame, or using it for D&D, or something else?

I just started the group. There is an announcement of a forthcoming game to be played online, and I mentioned my forthcoming event at the Dragonflight convention in Seattle.
Any of the topics you mention would be fine. I hope there will be scenarios, aars, rules variants and so on.

I'm a huge fan of G+, but you have to actively seek out communities and people that have your interests. It's definitely easier to do now that they have the whole communities thing. Communities stay hyper focused on one topic, and make it easier to find older info. You can also take individual people and put them into a group you create yourself, called a circle. You can then adjust your feed to show as little or as much info as you please (individual communities and people, up to everything all at once). Of course, the biggest draw of G+ is the ability to put together a group and actually play games in a hangout. I currently run three groups a week on G+, in a variety of different game systems (AD&D1e, DCC, Savage Worlds, Rolemaster, Traveller). I've met new friends from all over the world, and have been able to run games that I never would have gotten the chance to run, otherwise.
