It was an RPGA (Role Playing Gamers Association) qualifying exam. Here are the rules: 1. 60 minutes timed test 2. Open book 3. Based on D&D edition 3.5 4. 20 questions 5. Requires a score of 95% in order to pass. I tried the test without a "textbook" and did so in roughly 4 minutes. I only scored a 35%. Not bad for a guy who doesn't even own the 3.5 rulebooks! I was just curious if I could do it. ;D

You know that cell phone commercial with the geek sneering "Dungeon Masters don't have levels"? You should have seen the look I got when I saw that commercial and turned to my wife and said "Well, actually, the RPGA does have a hierarchy of level-based Dungeon Master sanctioning." :3

They have a "qualifying exam" to be a member of an RPG association? Do they actually give out a iploma as well? ;D

They don't have a qualifying exam to be part of the RPGA, but I think if you want to download any secret DM stuff and/or run a sanctioned game you have to show some minimal mastery of the rules. Having not played 3.5 ever (and having not played 3E in several years) I found this to be an interesting challenge. Part of me wants to do this just to prove I can, and another part says "nah, it's not worth it". Oh, and I love the "Knight School" comment, Doc!

So, where do we get copies of this exam for ourselves?

You have to go onto wizards.com in the RPGA section. You have to join the RPGA in order to gain access to the exams. (They are protected.) I guess they have something like 70 questions and you get a random 20.
