I'm enjoying it immensely thus far. There's something familiar about the depiction of the Castle on p. 18. Is it modelled on the one in the Siege of Bodenburg game?

Good spotting, DungeonDevil. As soon as we read that the Siege of Bodenburg castle might have been the inspiration for the original Castle Greyhawk, we immediately ditched our plans of modeling it on the Greyhawk Ruins version.

Oh dear. I remember seeing this being discussed on at least two blogs around the time I was writing those pages, but of course I can't find those blogs now. I'll keep looking.

I've found a link to one of them, but it's a dead link now. outsinn.blogspot.com/2012/05/old-greyhawk-castle-is-mine.htmlWhich is, admittedly, making my scholarship look pretty shaky. Still, even if this proves to be untrue, I think it makes for a compelling metafictional connection to the game's wargaming roots. ~Scott "-enkainen" Casper

Paul Stormberg shared research on this at GaryCon, and it's definitely been posted in the past on Axe & Hammer and other GH blogs too. A rather poor scan of the rules is @ www.thortrains.net/armymen/bodebok1.html

The position of the main gate and Wall A on the Bodenburg Castle map reminds me of the moathouse from T1.
I like the implied reference to Tenser's Floating Disk in the webcomic!

This is one of the most amazing looks at the original game I've ever seen! I love the art style and medieval look. I keep going back to play catch up every once in a while.

Aw, thanks guys!
A PDF compilation of the first chapter is mostly done. We still have to work out how to distribute it, other than as a Patreon reward. We can't directly sell it, being fanfiction.

Well, 50 Shades of Grey is fan fiction... Let's get this set up for a MOTION PICTURE DEAL! Or maybe an HBO series?

Very kind, really, but I don't think we could tell the same story and change the names around like 50 Shades did. The link to the history of D&D is too integral to this story.

My point was, he can call this "fan fiction", but that doesn't take away it's genius. It could go pretty far IMHO
