This is incomplete and perhaps a little cryptic, but I wrote it up for my own information, and thought maybe it would be interesting to others. It does NOT imply the AS&SH versions are the same as the AD&D versions. I’m just cataloging the appearances of similar ideas. Help me fill in the blanks, if you find anything relevant, but nothing from 2e, please. Fighter | PHB | Barbarian | UA | Berserker | BOD2 | Cataphract | UA | Paladin | PHB | Ranger | PHB | Warlock | * | | | Magician | PHB | Illusionist | PHB | Necromancer | WD35-36 | Pyromancer | LD74 | Witch | TD20 | | | Cleric | PHB | Druid | PHB | Monk | PHB | Priest | BOD4 | Shaman | * | | | Thief | PHB | Assassin | PHB | Bard | BOD3 | Legerdemainist | * | Scout | * |
There were lots of different witches in Dragon. This link summarizes them.

The warlock is effectively a fighter/magic-user. The shaman is effectively a magic-user/cleric (or druid). The legerdemainist is effectively a magic-user/thief. The scout is basically a ranger/thief. In other words, these are AD&D multiclasses made into classes. Of course Jeff has also given each of them some unusual and unique abilities, but I think this was the basic idea behind them. I should add that I much prefer Jeff's method to the confusing dual classes and multiclasses in AD&D.

Thanks fellows. And great thread, Falc. One thing that pops out to me -- I'd say our bard has a lot more in common with the Jeff Goelz version found in Dragon #56.

I changed it to “BOD3” to reflect the Best of Dragon Magazine, Vol. III where it was reprinted. There’s also an improved (?) Monk there. Did you ever look at any of the Witches from Dragon? Have a favorite?
