So I finally got around to printing out hardcopies of Astonishing Swordsmen and Sorcerers of Hyperborea as well as Adventurer Conqueror King (ACKS). I've had the PDFs for quite a while, but never really got into them until I had the books in my grubby hands.
(As an aside, I also printed out a clean copy of the revised Barrowmaze the same day - all of these are the finalists for this year's Three Castles Award.)
And now I'm obsessed with the idea of running a Hyperborean campaign using ACKS. (Maybe I'll throw the Barrowmaze in there, too.)
Anyhow; I was wondering if anyone else has done something similar. Any fans of Adventurer Conqueror King here?

Here.
I've not run it, but I am toying with the idea of using parts along with ASSH. I like the proficiency system, the treasure generation and the domain and trading rules, as well as the rules for making magic items...more poisons, traps, yeah I can see a lot of ways the two could bolster each other. Since I don't care for the old descending AC, that might be another thing. I'd want to actually try the ACKS system in play before I committed that much, though.
Anyway, I love ACKS and would most likely at least pirate stuff. The proficiencies especially (if I didn't use Akrasia's stuff there).
If you get a chance, look at Crypts and Things too. The very same genre, but with only a skeleton setting. Half the monsters are original and would fit in perfectly with ASSH.

I've thought about it, but ultimately decided that AS&SH is more my speed: I'm not big on the ACKS proficiency system, and much prefer the lightweight d6 task resolution in AS&SH. The ACKS rules/guidelines on building new classes, spells, items, etc. are probably the parts I'll reference most.

I don't have much to contribute on that front, as I'm not much familiar with ACKS. I've heard from a few folks who want to use the AS&SH rules with their own home-brew setting, utilizing elements of the HYPRBOREA campaign setting that they like, but mostly using their own stuff; conversely, I've heard from a few people who wish to use a different rules system, but want to embrace the HYPERBOREA map and setting materials. All of that is great, in my opinion, and I'm happy to hear that fellow gamers can find some use for AS&SH.
Cheers, Jeff T.
