AS&SH has a new character class, the CRYOMANCER exclusively available in AFS #2.

. . . The cryomancer is a sorcerer who masters the control and manipulation of snow, ice, and arctic winds. Through arcane studies and binding pacts made with glacial spirits, the cryomancer develops a spell book similar to that of a magician. Cryomancers form secret societies whose aims are oft deemed incongruous with other practitioners of the arcane. They aspire to unlock the genius of a legendary cabal of puissant sorcerer-priests who, in immemorial times, dwelled in a floating citadel of ice from whence they attended their dread master, The Ashen Worm . . .

This new subclass is inspired by Benoist Poiré, with special thanks to Colin Chapman.

I had been thinking the inclusion of the pyromancer in AS&SH was asking for a counterpoint, and here it is.

Also, thanks to Scalydemon for a fun little zine – lots of quality material there in a few pages.

Unrelated tangent:

Here's a thought, inspired by The Sword's "Warp Riders" album: what about a chronomancer? Could the manipulation/navigation of time support an entire school of magic? Could it be done without the spells being overly powerful..?

Yes indeed, but I'm not necessarily looking to "balance things" out, because that can be (ba-dump-bump) a slippery slope.

Also, thanks to Scalydemon for a fun little zine – lots of quality material there in a few pages.

You know, I've gotten more than a few emails and posts that include other ideas for variant character classes, and I may do a few more here and there, but right now I need to change gears and get back to adventure development. I think this forum is a great place to exchange ideas, so if anyone has a variant class idea that they would like to develop and post for public consumption -- I fully encourage it! I'm not saying that I'm going to make these "official" per se, but I am genuinely thrilled that the game inspires folks to get creative on their own and add to the whole.

So, have at it!

Perish the thought – you won't catch me using the 'b' word..

I wasn't suggesting that you should develop a "chronomancer", but rather fishing for opinions on the feasibility of such a subclass... I may tinker with some ideas on the subject; magic-using classes are far from my design forte, so it would be an interesting challenge.

Yes. With the pyromancer already in place, and now his antithesis, the cryomancer, I feel there is a nice Fire & Ice vibe that can be explored.
