I've got several maps of Middle-earth but offhand can't recall the scale for any of them. I'm running a party through an OD&D M-e game and can't recall how many days journey it takes to get from Hobbitton to Rivendell (for example) or from Helm's Deep to Minus Tirith, or whatever. I've been using the hex-map from the old SPI War of the Ring wargame and hand-waving movement as a hex or so per day, but I've just started wondering if I've shrunk the professor's world too much. I probably have this stuff somewhere (I'm guessing in the Decipher RPG or in the Atlas of Middle-earth) but thought that maybe someone here had a better rule of thumb for me.

Another fantastic resource is Barbara Stratchey's Journeys of Frodo, a book I always have open when re-reading LotR.

The Atlas of Middle Earth does appear to provide scales for most of its maps.

The One Ring RPG (by Cubicle 7) has its map gridded out in 10mi hexes.
Note that mirkwood is about 430 miles north-to-south. Dol Guldur to Rhosgobel is about 100 miles.
That should help you figure out the scale for the map you're using as an interim.
The shire and Bree aren't on the TOR maps.

I have the TOR maps but forgot their scale. My favorite map is the hex-map from the old SPI War of the Ring wargame. I got my copy laminated.
