Hi there!
This saturday I am playing AS&SH the first time, so I am preparing the adventure right now being the referee. I have never played D&D or other incarnations of the system before.
Now I am confused about the treasure classes. I want to use a Ghast as a boss enemy. The treasure classes are B, Q, R, S and T. So, do I use them all in addition or do I have to choose one of them?
I have a second question. I am not sure how to balance enemies and player characters. Is a single Ghast too difficult for a group of 3-4 level-1 characters or is it just right? Is there a rule I can follow?
Thanks in advance! Draugr

Hi there! This saturday I am playing AS&SH the first time, so I am preparing the adventure right now being the referee. I have never played D&D or other incarnations of the system before. Hello, and welcome to the forum! They all apply, but don't forget that each treasure type has a listed % which you must roll to see if the treasure is present or not. For example, treasure class B includes a 30% chance of having 1d4 gems. If you don't roll 01-30 on the percentile, there are no gems. Also consider that treasure classes are for the whole lair, not just on the individual ghast. Of course, you can place treasure wherever you want in your adventure, but you have the option of spreading it about in the various rooms or areas the ghast frequents. Another thing to consider is that the creature (in this case a ghast) is not even aware of some of the treasures he commands -- there could be secret rooms or compartments of which he is ignorant. Generally speaking, 3 HD monsters are an appropriate challenge for level 3 characters, but in some cases a lower hit dice creature might possess a nasty ability. In this case, the paralysis ability of the ghast is potent, and couple it with the 3 attacks per round, and you have a very formidable 3 HD creature. I think I would wait before throwing a ghast at a 3-4 level one characters, personally. Maybe go with a ghoul. Your choice, of course. Cheers, Jeff T.

Hi Jeff! Thanks for the quick answer and the detailed explanation! The rest I had figured out already. That was the only aspect where I was unsure. Thanks for the advice on the Ghast, too! I will use a Ghoul then or perhaps I can find something else fitting for my adventure! Greetings Draugr
