Aw, poo. Figured I'd be the first. But... it's good learning experience for anyone who chooses to pay attention to it. (I know I have.) Yeah, go ahead and throw me back in on the waiting list, WOTE. Looks like the additional people might be necessary in the long run...

Bad luck! We still face 7 with only 6 members standing, I think a few more of us are going down as well.

Rleduc and DoctorX, your PCs heard rumour that one of the scouting groups were planning to go treasure hunting instead of running their assigned reconnaissance. The pair of you -- unlikely collaborators -- trailed after them, always staying just out of sight.
You've found the ruins, and the stair... and can hear an almighty ruckus -- screaming and shouting -- coming from below. Could they possibly be fighting over the riches already??
Your hit points are rolled:
Rleduc (1 HD), 2d6 = 1, 4: 4 hit points.
DoctorX (1 HD), 2d6 = 6, 6: 6 hit points -- ah, the benefit of personal hygiene.
You can proceed to the in game thread. You are at the top of the stair at the beginning of the upcoming round...

FANTASTIC fold into the existing story. Well done! (and exalt!) BTW, I've also been spelling my PC's name wrong due to my poor handwritten note. His name is Jaras, not Javas. (My sons' names are Tiras and Javan...)

Hoho... not bad math just bad reading... I went from the "Meanwhile the other 11 kobolds launch the" and counted down the kills. For some reason I thought the other 2 had left the room going around the PC not the other way around. My bad. -Mike

Apologies for the slow gaming weekend folks, I had family commitments, and some process to take care of on the DD project itself.
Normal service shall resume shortly...

I'm hoping that will help fulfill this statement: Every little bit helps I'm in the process of tidying up the preface and credits for volume 1, which I will finish tonight after work. John is doing the actual shipping of stuff to fulfill the BHP orders, however, so I won't comment on that.

Apologies for the couple of days delay there... I had to work late nights to get the rules out, but they're in the pipe now. We'll get back to our adventure tomorrow night!

That's alright, while you were away we killed all the kobolds and are now resting. A few of us are playing a small game of soccer with one of the severed heads.... -Mike

{unsure how target selection works for sleep in the game. If Malaveque can sleep the majority of the kobolds without getting any friendlies, he'll do it (from the memorized spell). For those who haven't got the PDF yet, here is DD's text for the ever popular sleep spell: (emphasis added). So, if cast into a melee, sleep will affect friend and foe alike. As far as target selection goes, you can pick any individual to target the spell on. e.g., "the wounded kobold", or "Spaz the guard dog", or whatever. Bear in mind that as we presently have an unformed melee, I'm handling it in a rather abstract manner -- characters are either in the melee, or out of it (such as those at the foot of the stair).

Otherwise, he'll double-up next to a fighter and try to support attacks with his staff from the second rank, if possible} Sorry, but I'm going to rule that only fighters can attack effectively from the rearward rank.

Also, for your interest... regarding the loyalty of Spaz the guard dog...
When Dram first found Spaz, a neglected mutt in a junk yard, Spaz's reaction would have been rolled [2d6=10, so a positive reaction. Spaz trusted Dram right away].
At the beginning of this adventure, Spaz's loyalty was rolled. Ordinarily, this would remain secret from the players but as this is a demo game... [3d6=12 adjusted by +1 for Spaz's positive reaction, and also by +1 for Dram's high charisma. Total loyalty is 14, which will adjust morale checks by +1].

Could have been interesting if Malaveque rolled high and slept everyone -- including himself

Indeed - 12 out of 18 is reasonably high as it is, and it was a pretty near thing. Cue the waiting list to look for the first party!

Regarding non-magical rest and recovery, I shall rule that:
* An hour's rest with refreshment (wine, ale, fresh water) will recover you 1 hit point.
* A full night's rest (at an encampment, for example) will recover 1-6 hit points, plus any constitution adjustment.
* Full overnight bed rest (at an inn, for example) is cause to re-roll all hit points afresh.

Regarding poor Dishmab's mail armour... OOC: I'm assuming it's dwarf sized and can not be used by an Elf.... If that is NOT the case then Tirandir would certainly put it on. Otherwise i assume Jaras might be able to use it??? Yes it is dwarf-sized, but (because it is mail) I'll still anyone else to wear it. It may not be an "ideal" fit but it still provides adequate protection. Regarding inheritance, all PCs are allowed to declare an heir, and all their worldly goods (less a 10% fee which goes to the state or he who returns the goods) are the rightful property of the heir. Thus, Dishmab and Firas' equipment "rightfully" belongs to their next of kin. However, chaotic characters would happily loot this stuff. Neutrals would happily "borrow" it until the rightful heir showed up, and lawfuls would insist upon returning it to the heir without any meddling.

Noted... Updated my character sheet with the mail and the shortsword. I'd probably give the stuff back to the heirs also, I'm chaotic but somewhat accommodating. -Mike

Jaras wouldn't be interested in the additional weight. (now some good hobbit-sized and light elven armour would be lovely)

Simon: What are the ranges in your game for thrown weapons. Specifically, flaming oil. Or do we need to learn by trying?

Simon: What are the ranges in your game for thrown weapons. Specifically, flaming oil. Or do we need to learn by trying? DD doesn't specify missile ranges, and nor do they ordinarily matter underground, because dungeon rooms and passages are typically so much smaller than realistic missile ranges. In the case of hurled oil flasks it might matter, though the ceiling height is likely to be the critical constraint. Let us assume the ceiling height here is 20ft, and that ranges for axes, flasks, and other awkward missiles would be 10ft, 20ft, and 30ft for short, medium and long range respectively. However, DD does comment that all hurled missiles are considered to be at medium range. Therefore there is only one range category for an oil flask which is medium, up to 30ft.

Argh , and Jaras hangs in the balance.... Seems we are running out of fighters very quickly... Poor Dram 9hp and guard dog and still he goes down in the second room. I should have titled my action Tirandir last stand , I hope it works out but it seems to me tactically if we do not down those last 2 lizardmen now we risk having to deal with the 4 sleepers which it really seems we lack the power to do at this point. So I'm going all in despite my reservations. -Mike

Yeah, Dram was unlucky to take that big hit in the first room... but them's the breaks.
FWIW -- I don't think Tirandir is at much immediate risk, especially not if he continues his strategy of scampering away and shooting.
