Here's a place for any out of character chat, and also for me to share with you behind the scenes insights about what is happening in play.

While we await Rleduc, I will roll everyone else's starting hit points. To give you every fighting chance of survival, I will be rolling one additional die for each player, and discarding the lowest die. Thus, if you happen to have a 1 HD character, I will roll two dice and discard the lower. If you have a 4 HD character, I will roll five dice and discard the lowest. Etc. So, here we go: alcyone (1 HD) 6, 5 = 6hp Mushgnome (1+2 HD) 2, 4 = 6hp verhaden (1 HD) 1, 3 = 3hp mgtremaine (1+3 HD) 2, 6 = 9hp @cameron (1+3 HD) 6, 4 = 9hp &spaz (1-1 HD) 5 = 4hp @zenopus (1 HD) 1, 4 = 4hp @ehiker (1 HD) 2, 2 = 2hp rleduc (? HD) ?, ? = ?hp I will update the Present Company page to reflect your starting totals

Is that a typo in the Thief chart at 2nd level? Should that read 2,500 XP? ? By the way I like your thief. -Mike

SMKSensei should warm his PC up in the wings though... Yeah, I thought the mediocre stats were bad... How long have I been in the Hinderlands game, WOTE? Really think I can stay out of trouble? Not sure it is in my nature... But I'll try. A wise halfling once said, "Hey, I can always roll up another character..."

rleduc, How are you going with your PC? I'm kinda keen to keep this thing ticking over apace... and we can get it under way as soon as your PC is up

For purposes of formation, are we saying 3 men abreast to a 10' corridor?

Flavor text says the entryway is only wide enough for one.

If it widens to 10' afterwards, though, I think 3'4" of width per person is barely enough room to walk, much less fight, should it come to that.
Two abreast in a 10' wide corridor is more commonly accepted, I think.

For purposes of formation, are we saying 3 men abreast to a 10' corridor? I will allow 3 trained fighters to fight abreast in a 10ft wide passage with spears if they are remaining stationary. If advancing, or fighting with sword, axes, maces and so on, 2 men may fight abreast in a 10ft wide passage. Use of two handed swords, pole-axes, and similarly sized weapons allows only one to fight abreast in a 10ft wide passage.

Seeing that Rleduc hasn't built a PC yet, and I'm eager to get started, I am swapping SMKSensei in. Rleduc will take his place in the wait list (at first drop). SMK, you're up! Please post your character in the PC sheets thread. I've rolled your hit points: Sean Michael Kelly (1+2 HD) 4, 4 = 6hp

Me too , I think our gold reserves took a beating in favor of stats. We may pay the price. Alas, that may prove to be all too true. I'm somewhat surprised the m-us didn't elect to find 100 gp for four scrolls each, and the clerics didn't elect to find 50gp for two scrolls each. Even just a scroll of cure light wounds per cleric might have been "handy", but there we have it!

My thinking was, buy scroll: fix a wound once. Buy armour: don't get hit, survive to second level so I can fix wounds every day.
But, as Tolkien put it: "“It does not do to leave a live dragon out of your calculations, if you live near him.”
We shall see how well my thinking serves me and the party.

My thinking was, buy scroll: fix a wound once. Buy armour: don't get hit, survive to second level so I can fix wounds every day. Perfectly sound thinking! I guess what I was hinting at was that nobody decided to assigned a high roll to their starting money so that they could afford both armour AND scrolls. Given that a score of 13 or 14 is functionally similar to a score of 7 or 8, it could have worked out reasonably... In any case, it has all been decided upon now!
