According to the Silmarillion (although this is different from the information on the Tolkien's Gateway website), the only treasure that Húrin took from Glaurung's hoard was the Nauglamír. The dragon's treasure was cursed by Mîm the Petty Dwarf, who crept into the dragon's lair after it died and laid claim to the treasure. While the Tolkien Gateway site says that Húrin's band liberated the treasure, my copy of the Silmarillion says it was Húrin alone and only the necklace was taken. As the curse was strong enough (with the Silmaril involved) to eventually cause the downfall of Doriath, why not base a late 2nd Age game around the bits of the cursed treasure as it is slowly dispersed, possibly some of it being stashed around the Weather Hills (like the treasure of the trio of trolls). Bring in more strange and dangerous magic items, cursed coins and other nasty surprises for a band of adventurers in Middle-Earth.

The version in The Silmarillion (1977) was invented by Christopher Tolkien and Guy Gavriel Kay. Christopher Tolkien admitted it was a mistake.

I was actually reading a newer book that I had gotten at a Hastings bookstore when I was out and about and needed a long read, and it is the version in which only the necklace is taken, there is no band. However, the treasure is cursed either way and can move about Middle Earth on a whim, after the fall of Doriath looters may have spread the cursed things far and wide.

Um, Guy Gavriel Kay helped with the Silmarillion?? Yup. Years before he was known for the Fionavar books, was asked to be Christopher Tolkien's assistant in the preparation of The Silmarillion.
