This is a post from Jamie Chambers of Signal Fire games. I grabbed it from Craig's Metamorphosis Alpha board, and I think it's great news! Just wanted to spread the word.....
Good morning, folks! Jamie Chambers of Signal Fire Studios here. It's been a long road in getting from our original plans to bring out a new incarnation of Metamorphosis Alpha, and while the delays have been a bit frustrating I'm finding myself actually glad that things worked out the way they did because, long-term, I think it means that a better product with more exposure and better potential to be seen and sold. Older plans to marry the new edition to D&D 4th Edition have been scrapped for a few different reasons. Here is what we're up to ...
Working under agreement and collaboration with Jim Ward we are re-launching Metamorphosis Alpha as a roleplaying game line of products. It begins this summer with the core game book.
One of the things I've discovered going to 10-12 conventions a year is that awareness of MA drops off steeply with gamers who started playing in the 90s and onward. I've explained both the general concept and its place in gaming history as the first scifi RPG and precursor to Gamma World -- and I get a lot of, "Wow, I didn't know about that. Cool!"
So the goal here is to bring Metamorphosis Alpha out as if it was new. Because to a significant chunk of the potential audience -- it is. So while this is technically a "Fifth Edition" of MA, I'm not planning on making that part of the title because over the last few years there is a bit of stigma attached to that, particularly with a certain major fantasy RPG that abandoned 4th Edition after only a few years.
What are our goals? To present MA in a new form with easy-to-learn rules that let players jump in on the action. To offer the original vision of the Starship Warden as a vast "dungeon in space" full of surprises and the fun of mixing primitive characters, high technology, and unpredictable mutant powers. A good session of MA should have exploration, action, and discovery with plenty of fun stories to take away from the game table.
As much as I'm excited to bring MA to a new audience: I can't stress this enough: Our most important support base is right here. Those who've loved MA and come on-board the Warden either from the beginning or previous editions are the first people I hope to please with our new products. I hope that you'll get involved in various ways -- playtesting the game, spreading the word in your gaming community and online, or running events at game stores or conventions. Your passion and involvement are an important ingredient in our success.
Signal Fire Studios is a new company, but I'm pleased to say we have a sales agreement that will offer our products through dozens of hobby game distributors throughout the world, along with Amazon.com and other book distribution channels. We will also be offering the product in eBook/PDF formats so that those who enjoy games on their laptops and tablet computers can do so as well. We'll be marketing through major RPG websites and demoing games at conventions all year long.
Thanks for sticking with MA for all these years, and I hope that you'll continue to do so and get involved in the new products that are in the works right now. I'll be in touch and have some important questions for the community so keep your eyes open. Have a great weekend!
