I would let them die and roll a new character, unless they have/find someone who can ressurect the dead. In latter case, the cost would be high - either money, or a favour. Death is death. If you have problem with characters dying easily in OD&D, maybe you should start them at level 3, and/or give maximum HP for the first hit dice.

Damage greater than or equal to hit points equals death (if it was killing damage.) For death from ordinary sources, I give them 1 turn to try something to halt death. Mundane measures have a chance (5+ on d6) of bringing them back to 1 hp. After 1 turn, nothing except Raise Dead works. Some forms of death (beheading ripping someone's heart out, eating their brains, etc.) are a lot harder to come back from...

At zero hit points, the character throws a save versus death. Failure is death, Success is 0 hp/unconscious. Any other hit will kill automatically.
Consider giving each player more than one character, two or maybe three. This will create a larger group and they can face a greater variety of challenges. If a character dies then the player will still be in the game.
Either way, with White Box it only takes 5 minutes to roll up a new character. Throw him back in wherever you can and roll with it. Keep the fun moving.
