In his paralyzed state, The Shade of the Evermore slowly feels his control slipping.
OOC: What are the telepathy limits again, Mush? Must be in line of sight? Or just know general whereabouts?
The Shade projects **Is everyone still alive? You can communicate with me through thoughts if you cannot speak**

Fated takes stock -- are there any weapons at hand, and where is the exit? Fated's tactical situation: He was carried up the spiral stairs, then dragged across the floor for a bit, then hoisted in the air to the attic where he is now. From this he surmises there is an upstairs level between the ground floor and the attic. The main exit is one of those pull-down attic stairs leading back to the house, currently in the open/down position. There is also a trap door in the ceiling, presumably leading to the cupola/widow's walk. The best improvised weapon Fated can find is a thigh-bone that could be used as a club.

The ghoul is dragging Breath across the upstairs floor to the attic stairs. Fated hears the shuffling sounds of their approach.
A new round of saving throws...
Minion and Shade fail and are still incapacitated.
Gunnery manages to reach his dagger and cut through the webbing; he is free.
Breath with her immense strength (rolls a 20 on her save!) finds a weakness in the webbing and realizes she can break free at any time. It is her choice whether to bust out immediately or wait until the spider-ghoul has strung her up and gone back downstairs for its next victim.

If Shade sees Gunnery breaking free, he communicates **Use my arc welder. It seemed to work very well against the fiend.**If he doesn't see that, then... he doesn't communicate it.

Oh, EYE get it. Took me a minute, though... Guess that would be classified as an inside joke for the time being...

Fated summons his mental fortitude, concentrates briefly, and thinks a message to Shade: "I have peed myself."
Fated, using every ounce of stealth within him, picks up the heavy thigh bone and hides himself amid the debris behind the stair opening, from there to ambush Octoteats at the precise moment of maximum surprise.

Breath of New Moon decides to wait to wait to see what this creature is up to, hopefully she'll have a better chance to escape... she doesn't want to struggle free now when she's alone with it and might simply be paralysed again.

The ghoul drags Breath to the attic and begins stringing her from the rafters. It seems to be struggling a bit with the task (missing one of its forelegs, hacked off by Gunnery) and its back is turned to the hidden Fated.

Fated rises up silently, like a shadow, and wordlessly delivers a heavy strike on the unsuspecting fiend (the spider goat ghoul, not Breath).
Fated readies his next action: if the spider goat ghoul is vanquished, Fated will exult and preen. If not, he will dive sideways to avoid a gusher of octotitty toxins.

He fails his save vs. paralysis [7] and is paralyzed by sheer terror! He topples forward and his bone-club [1d6+1, needs 6, rolls 6!] miraculously strikes the creature a glancing blow [1d4=1hp damage] right between the eyes! Sometimes that's all it takes... the spider goat ghoul shrieks and crumbles to dust! Fated to Die's victory preening is hampered by his complete paralysis. Breath bursts free and is amused at the sight.

As soon as he is able to move again, The Shade retrieves his boom stick. He'll go up the stairs to check on everyone up there.
Once he's up there, he'll examine the remains of the past victims for anything of value.

The party spends the afternoon recovering from paralysis/webbing and exploring the rest of the house. A room-by-room sweep reveals no more spider-ghouls or other creepy-crawlies.
Here is a brief description of each unexplored room; if you let me know which room your PC is searching, I will tell you what you find.
The battle took place in the west-wing library, your investigation of which was interrupted by the ghoul. This room has a spiral staircase going up and down.
Up the spiral staircase from the library (upstairs west wing) is a greenhouse/sunroom with large skylights covered by heavy drapes.
There is a hole through the wall connecting the west and east wings. Looks like something big smashed through.
East wing upstairs was once 4 bedrooms, but all the walls are smashed apart to make one large room. The rubble is piled blocking the south staircase. At the north end is a washroom, a linen closet, and a staircase leading down (but the door is shut from the other side).
The attic is accessed by a pull-down stairs from the upstairs hallway. Shade searches the spider-goat-ghoul's midden and finds: The creature's recent victims are mostly medium-sized animals similar to a raccoon, however the bone pile suggests a more varied diet in the past, including human bones, many of which are proportional to a child or half-man. Mixed among the refuse is 91 cp, 10 sp, and 3 gp.
A trap door in the attic leads to the cupola, featuring a widow's walk with a fine view of the neighborhood.
The outside kitchen door at the north end of the house is unlocked. The kitchen doors to the middle room and to the stairwell are boarded shut (from the kitchen side) so that the kitchen is separate from the rest of the house.
Nobody has gone down cellar yet. It appears the cellar can accessed via the outdoor bulkhead entrance, the spiral stairs in the library, or the boarded-up stairwell in the kitchen.

Minion heads down the spiral stair in the Library. Minion of the Unholy Fragnog, meet Vociferous Bastard From Innsmouth! The green man has just finished picking the lock to escape from the cellar. There is a chain-link cage and door separating the stairway from the rest of the room. It's obvious from the size of the room that this is a partial cellar under the west wing; it is not big enough to be the main cellar for the rest of the house. There is a rug-covered trap door to a small cell below containing a mummified corpse. Vociferous Bastard will be a non-combatant NPC until pessemisthalfling gets back. As a green man, he has good local knowledge of the Arkham/Innsmouth/Kingstown region.

The battle took place in the west-wing library, your investigation of which was interrupted by the ghoul. This room has a spiral staircase going up and down. After the Shade finishes with searching the remains around the ghoul's lair, he goes back down and does a more detailed examination of the library, including the bookshelves (tapping to check for hollow spaces) and the desk (pulling out drawers and searching them for hidden compartments, as well as the spaces behind the drawers). Do we have a treasure thread to mark this in?

Now that the party has time to relax, they are able to count the money. (See the new Treasure & Shopping thread.)
Malleable Teamster returns with clean linens, potpourri, and perfumes for Minion. He and his sister Dro are yours until nightfall, how will you make use of their labors?
Vociferous Bastard ignores your questions and begs "water..."
Shade finds the following in the library: a desk drawer full of manure, another desk drawer empty except for a tin whistle, an empty wooden crate, a damp patch in one corner of the floor, and many cobwebs (no hidden doors or compartments).

Vociferous Bastard chugs the proffered water and immediately looks much better. He mumbles a vague, non-committal tale of getting jumped by thugs and waking up in the cellar. [OOC: Out of respect to pessimisthalfling I am not going to disclose too much of VBfI's backstory. As far as you know, a prisoner locked in the cellar is a perfectly normal architectural feature of the finer homes in Arkham ]

Fated: "Teamsters, pay attention. Two things. First, we need laborers to clean and repair this house, beginning two days hence. A cleaning crew of no less than 8 workers to scrub this place top to bottom and cart away rubbish. Then such craftsmen as necessary - additional teamsters, carpenters, plasterers, masons, fitters -- to repair the damage here.
"Second, we need complete documentation that affirms our ownership of this house. Use my name for all records. Deed of title, bill of sale memorializing transfer of said title (dated yesterday's date), and any other paperwork needed by the city. I trust you have discreet contacts who can make this happen -- obviously, it needs to look good.
"You may take the corpse of this beast as down payment for your efforts."

Minion adds to Fated's instructions, almost obsessively "and remember, don't touch this pile" he points to the pile of rubbish he crawled into earlier "until I'm done with it. I will be on a spirit journey inside it until tomorrow."
He finds a comfortable, out of the way place for Bastard to relax and begin regaining his strength.
