I never read carefully the AC9 Shady Dragon Inn, for B/X. So, I did it recently and found inside a nice take on alignements, especially for clerics.
All NPCs inthat book, somewhat an hundred, are ready to get along with PCs, but all have various motivations described in a few lines.
Some clerics wear "clerical garbs" of various colours, like if they were monks from an order, which could be recognized as such.
What's striking is Chaotic clerics : they don't seems really that bad, just greedy and sometimes take privacies with clerical life, but not the "evil priest" mood. A few quotes:
It's far much easier to get that kind of chaotic cleric than a classical style "high evil priest" in your party. The one who want's to enlight people in a pub looks more like the classical drunk monk than a servant of demons sacrifying people. And the other who prefers gold to religion could be the cleric of any lawful god, but not the best one...
This is an intriguing take on alignment, if we compare with most published modules, but it enables to get all clerics in the same church, alignement being an indication on how they view and practice their own duty and religious comitments.

"Zarkon likes to play practical jokes, although he dislikes having jokes played on him. He brags too much, and sometimes makes promises he cannot keep. You cannot trust him when the chips are down."
"Theodoric prefers to be in the front of battle, where he is most apt to find treasure. He believes that surviving is a sign of his god's avor."
"When he is not trying to make fighters "see the light," he is busy carousing with them in taverns. He wears his holy symbol outside his armor. In combat, he attacks fiercely if he thinks he can profit by
it. Otherwise, he hangs back."
"Humbert loves good food and the easy life. He will go on any expedition that is well-provisioned if he is promised a good share of the profit. He is more interested in personal gain than in profits for his religion."
"She keeps to herself, saying nothing about the rumor that she has a demon in bondage (the rumor is a lie). Penelope believes how
well she profits from an expedition shows how well her god favors the adventurers."
"He will stay with a party and help them as long as it is profitable for him. "Gods help those who help themselves," he says seriously. He values gold highly."
