My group and I are getting ready to start back up and Blackmoor is on my radar as a possible setting. I have also become more and more interested in Dave Arneson's play-style. I was wondering if anyone has put together a sort of Primer on getting started in Blackmoor?
I have D@D and the FFC and am looking at using a modified S&W:Core for my game.
If you have any tips please feel free to share them.

The FFC + CM + OD&D + Suppl II. are all that I would really need. D@D is a great little book, but might not be necessary if one has the first four mentioned works. The DA books might be good for some extra material to mine, but I don't get the impression that they were in the red on the ole Arnesonometer.

I always thought that the First Fantasy Campaign book was really all you need for a Blackmoor campaign. Stick that together with the old-school rules system of your choice and you're good!

Blackmoor discussion during Christmas! Gotta love this! To offer an alternative, my recommendation: DA1: Adventures in Blackmoor. In that book you will find: 1) An overview of the setting 2) Detailed writeups of all the major characters in the setting. 3) An adventure ready for you to run. -Havard

For a "one source" of setting information besides your copy of the FFC, I'd say look to the 4e Blackmoor book. It summerizes and updates pretty much all that has gone before, all with Dave's blessing and oversight, and can be had from several of the usual vendors for little more than a song... www.trollandtoad.com/p280770.html You can ignore those parts dealing with 4e crunch very easily. Since you are using a D&D retroclone ruleset, I would highly reccomend you also get your mits on Supplement II, for inspiration at least.

100% agreed with Finarvyn. The First Fantasy Campaign is it. Learn it, live it, love it!

Aldarron, you get an exalt! Your comment made me go dig out my 3E Blackmoor book, which I bought months back from the game store because it was collecting dust and they marked it at $9.99. When I originally got it, I flipped through it... "prestige class, blah blah blah" and it went immediately to the shelf.
When I opened it this time, I discovered there was a badass map in the back that I never even noticed before! It's like when you do laundry and find money in your pocket!

I bought the 4E Blackmoor book on sale and never actually opened it. I guess I should try to see where I put it, because it may have some Blackmoor goodness hidden inside!
