I recently stumbled onto this old thread, Geoffrey. Care to enlighten us how some of these things changed and morphed as you created Carcosa? What happened to the trolls or neogi with space ships, for instance?

Oh, that's gold Tom! Geoffrey, you're toast! ;D Actually, very cool. I notice that his response about inclusions is identical to the Q&A in the Carcosan Grimoire.

I notice that his response about inclusions is identical to the Q&A in the Carcosan Grimoire. I garnered the Q&A in the grimoire from several online sources, including DF. I thought it was interesting to see the evolution of the concept.

What happened to the trolls or neogi with space ships, for instance? Tom, those things were gradually dropped as the world of Carcosa kind of "found its way". With each game session, it was like I was learning a little more about Carcosa. After many months (a year, perhaps?) of play, Carcosa finally assumed the form it took in the published booklet. Of course, trolls or neogi with spaceships could certainly show-up in another referee's Carcosa. As far as I'm concerned, there are as many Carcosas as there are referees moderating games therein. ;D

My tracking Geoffrey's development of Carcosa on DF may have lead to the "pulpy" feel of my version of Carcosa in "Obregon's Dishonor". I've wanted to write a sequel (actually 2) and I've been struggling with whether to go with the starker feel of Geoffrey's module Crussdaddy's work or stick with the more Barsoomian feel of my work.

You know how wargames have those little bar graphs on the back of the box that indicate complexity and solitaire suitability? I think CARCOSA products should have the same system, but the categories would be something like Lovecraft, Lost World, and Sci-Fi. And then you can tell at a glance what you're in for: powered armor and gamma rays, or rampaging dino-riders, or sorcerers running around being dicks, or whatever.

powered armor and gamma rays, or rampaging dino-riders, or sorcerers running around being dicks, or whatever. Ummm... you don't have all of that in your Carcosa game already?

I think so, and honestly that is very appealing to me.

Thanks, Geoffrey. I assumed that was the case, but also wondered if there was any more too it, like a huge paradigm shift half-way through the campaign that could be all types of interesting.
