On to morale. It seems that there are double penalties in the morale system. Peasants, for instance, check when they reach 1/4 casualties and have a poor morale check. Others take checks at 1/3 or 1/2 casualties and have much better morale checks. So there are 2 penalties/advantages at play here.
My thought is to have everything check at the same rate. 1/3 casualties for the morale check and 2/3 casualties for the unit to be automatically removed. Fanatics could skip the first morale check and depending on the type, would be removed at 2/3 casualties. Holy Order Knights would just withdraw at 2/3 casualties while berserks would fight to the death. Keep the morale numbers in the book.
There is an optional rule for cavalry charge with a big table. It should be good enough to use the morale number for each unit type. Then deduct 1 from the die roll if fighting medium cavalry and 2 if fighting heavy cavalry.

There's a great line in game of thrones, where the sellsword bronn tells tyrion lannister, "I'll kill for you, but I won't die for you." Mercenaries with high morale, but who are unwilling to take heavy losses, play different than soldiers with low morale, but will fight through more casualties. What I'm saying is don't let a desire for a uniform system get in the way of verisimilitude knights-n-knaves.com/phpbb3/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=7928Here's a nice thread on CM morale, it's actually not that complicated, just poorly organized. .

There are mercenary rules and I definitely would use them as is. Similarly, there are rules for unreliable peasants. BTW I would change that to unreliable as good troops may also be unreliable by being unmotivated. My idea is definitely one of standardization but also simply good game design. Never double up two advantages into one trait. Interesting thread never the less. John
